All the 'Reply' options are very confusing . . . and where are the bold/italic/under-line functions, please Robert?

Note that you did change the slogan . . . BETTER OFFICIALS is all encompassing and quite timely as far as the RFU is concerned but wouldn't BETTER UNDERSTANDING or simply COMMITTED TO A BETTER GAME be more pertinent to this dedicated site?

Robert Burns

Reply is the first, just a bog standard reply.

Reply with quote is quoting one persons post.

The speech marks and + is multi quote.

No difference to before.

As for the slogan, it it what it is.

I am a bit confused by the reply options. Pressing the big button that says "+ Reply to Thread" doesn't seem to do anything. Pressing reply at the bottom right of the last post just moves your cursor to the quick reply box?

Smilys on the right now work, but there are more on the right than in the drop down.
The drop down ones don't have any tooltip names.
They all seem a little small.

I love how the attachments work, where you can easily see and use previous ones.
I love the logo.

I can't get my head round what gallery does?

Looking forward to all the branding being finished.

If you select the multi quotes, then hit +reply to thread at the bottom it adds all the quotes you have selected.

If you hit the reply button, it just puts you in the reply box, yes.

I agree the smilies look small, but they are normal size in the posts. Didn't notice there were less in the top menu, will look into that too.

Rit Hinners

Several things I don't care for.

There is no "time since last log in" anywhere that I can find. This makes it impossible to know how far you need to look back when something logs me back in while I'm reading a post. With the old forum I knew to locate this number when logging in so I could find my "bookmark" in threads.

The icons beside posts to show what is new or not is so pale that it's difficult for me to tell which is which.

From the "New Posts" page the link just opens the top of the thread. Shouldn't that send me to the "first unread"?

this forum only lets you post once every 30 hours :hap:

Can we get rid of that for "accepted" users - say after 50 posts or so? I understand the need to stop spam etc, but when flipping through the forums in the morning, and it has stopped me posting 3 times, and I have to stop, count down the 30 seconds, re-post, miss the timing, repost. Means it takes way too long to read and reply etc.

I don't think the search facility is as good as the old site.

Believe it or not I can't find the infamous leggings thread by putting leggings in the quick search or by using the advanced either. Perhaps it's just me.

By the way I asked a lad to remove his leggings at a 7s tournament yesterday - he did.

The Colour schemes need a lot of work (IMHO) (On firefox)

The vb standard one - there is so much white, it makes my eyes hurt. The RR.com white one, reading any text is hard. The RR.com colour one is okay, but the header etc is unreadable.

Please - I need a non-white version, that is legible.....

the "new posts" is a bit annoying. even though I don't read the posts but click on the option again - it will remove all the previous listed threads and then I have to go back and look through the entire site for new posts or just say forget it...which I have been doing. not too good for business.

You should have a look at the way they have it set up on The Rugby Forum

http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/

They have the same "Latest Posts" panel that you have on the home page, displayed on the Forums page, and you can tuck it away or bring it into view by toggling the little chevron thingy on the RHS

Yes sometimes it is slow, and sometimes very slow

I got the stop watch out this arvo.

Clicking "Home"....Best 15 sec, worst 24 sec before the homepage displayed

Clicking "Reply With Quote"....Best 20 sec, worst over a minute before the reply window was up.

Clicking "Post Quick Reply"... Best 15 seconds, worst over a minute for the post to show.

Tried on three different computers. Results seemed to be about the same. No such problems on other forums

Robert

Quite aside from the fact that this new site is terribly, frustratingly slow (30 seconds to a minute to navigate between threads, or to open a reply window) there is also a serious issue with the "search function... it is essentially useless. Every search I have tried so far comes up with "Sorry, no matches". I even tried search for the word "scrum" and ........ "Sorry, no matches". WTF?

When I try using Google's Advanced Search to search the site, I see the results I want, but when I click to go to them, I get this page.... every time

http://www.rugbyrefs.com/forums/index.php

It seems the archives are inaccessible because they are located in a sub-directory of http://www.rugbyrefs.com/forums, and you have blocked access and forwarded to the index page

You need to get rid of that forwarding page so that the archives can be accessed. It is also probably the reason why the search function doesn't work, because it is not looking through the archives, only those posts that have been made since the new software was installed.

I'll send the server optimisation details to the hosts see if they can make the load time faster, mines not normally that bad, but is slower than before.

I'll rebuild the search function, I'll probably close the forums for an hour or so to do that as it's quite a server intensive process.

Have to agree ddjamo. Slow, means I don't do any quick reading of posts dueing the working day (not when it takes 30seconds + to load a thread - which means it is slower than the BBC on my work machine (which is why I don't use the BBC anymore, but all other sites are instant, even video/tv streaming. Speed of internet connection isn't an issue - we rely on speed for out trading platforms). Also - seems the switch to the new site has led to a drop in the number of posts. Yes it is the summer, but with 3N, RWC etc, would expect more. And most those posts seems to be Robbie starting them. Maybe it is a co-incidence, maybe it is imagined, but there it is.

I don't need any of the flash functionality, just a quick forum. So I would say it appears to be a backwards step, despite the best intentions. Personally I would resist the urge to develop more for the site until you can get the speed of it back up.

I've been working to try and reduce the amount of work the database has to do.

I am getting through all the issues, the main thing is that a server change to a Virtual Private Server (VPS) will cost a lot (approx. US$800 a year), I'm happy to do it but scoping the internet for good companies and deals takes time. I also need to know that doing it will have the desired affect. I hope to have this sorted by the weekend.

I think the slowness is mainly due to the UK Season being off and no NH internationals for a bit. I expect it to increase again the week after next.

The correct tag turned out to be simply sevens.

For the prefix "feature" I still have no idea how this can be used instead of having a specific sub forum.
