View Full Version : Who put the ball in goal?
This may be a simple one. Happened to me yesterday. Red ball carrier is tackled on his own 1 meter line and Blue tackler in the process of executing the ball carrier pushes him into the goal area where the ball carrier, while being tackled, down the ball. The ball carrier was able to down the ball by virtue of the tackle, not because of an active attempt. 5 meter scrum or 22 m?
...Blue tackler in the process of executing the ball carrier
That's one mean game of rugby they play in the south. What happens if you knock-on, they cut your finger off?
If a defending player threw or took the ball into the In-goal, and a defending player grounded it, and there has been no infringement, play is restarted by a 5-metre scrum. The position of the scrum is in line with where the ball has been touched down. The attacking side throws in the ball.
There is no mention of intent to ground the ball. The mere fact that it was grounded by a player is all you need to make a decision. Attacking team scrum.
Law 22.7 (b) If a defending player threw or took the ball into the in-goal,...
(even if he didn't want to).
