View Full Version : Tactical substitution with a substituted player

During yesterday's Currie Cup match between the Golden Lions and the Sharks a Lions flanker was replaced in the 72nd minute by a starting lock who had himself been replaced in the 57th minute.

The replaced flanker didn't seem to be in distress and it didn't seem to be blood replacement or a replacement for a concussion test, although it was mentioned that the flanker suffered from flu during the week.

The match timeline on the SARU web site shows it as a tactical replacement.

The competition doesn't allow for rolling substitutions and not all the substitutes had been used yet.

As far as I know the only time a substituted player may return to the field as a replacement is in the case of front row players, blood or concussion. Or are there other circumstances?

Resolved: Apparently went off for a concussion test
