Once the Lions tour has started, the Leaderboard will be posted in this thread and updated after the results of each game.

Well, with a cheeky final week exact prediction, Bryan leaps from 3rd to 1st to steal it at the last! Well done Bryan!

A reminder of the rules:

Attempt to predict the winning team and the margin of victory for every game of the Lions tour.

Points are a bad thing and are awarded according to how badly awry your prediction is.

An exact prediction gains you a bonus of -5 points.

You receive one point for each actual game point by which your prediction is adrift. eg. predicting a winning margin of 4 points for a game that actual ends 21-14 earns you 3 points.

You receive a penalty of 10 points in addition to your margin points for predicting the wrong winner. For instance, taking the Wales v England game from the first round of this year's 6N as an example, if someone had predicted England to win by 4 points, they would score 16 points: 6 for being away from the true result by 6 points, and 10 for the wrong winner.

If you incorrectly predict a draw, you receive a penalty of 5 points on top of the margin points.

If you miss a prediction for this predicatathon, you will be credited with the average number of points for that match PLUS a penalty of 10 points, which should hopefully have the desired effect (since it's based on averages, it would otherwise be possible to score better than the dedicated regulars who get it wrong that week)... This will be indicated by NP, followed by the score in brackets.

Predictions edited after the match in question has started will be ignored, treated as if no prediction had been made, PLUS a supplementary sportsmanship penalty of 25 points. Play nicely, guys!

OK, so Bryan won, pipping SimonT (who had led since Game 2) at the post...

I guess I'd better open this thread now for trash-talking and excuse-making...

Thanks for organising the Predictathon Pablo - and well done Bryan ! Spot on for the last match, awesome performance.

How any of us could have made accurate predictions with such an inconsistent and apparently subjective set of Lions team selections is beyond me - well done everyone !

Well done All Blacks, terrific rugby, and now we will see how good they really are in the Tri-Nations matches.

But what a sorry set of Lions they were (and how embarassing it was to see "here kitty, kitty" headlines in South Africa in anticipation of 2009 !)

The results were indeed embarassing, but surely childish insults in headlines reflect on the South African press, not on us?

Now I know why i don't gamble! I'd be bankrupt in hours!

Well done Bryan!

OB - at least it's a free press out in SA now, and somewhat more intellectual and informative than the tabloids wee have in the UK !

And I found the headline embarrassing, and quite amusing, as I was with guys I played with in the 80s who also remembered the Lions as a competitive side.

They will be again, just a hiccup!

Jasper, AB

Gents,
Thanks for the congrats. I believe it was my unbiased North American standpoint that helped. Technically the fact that I didn't bet on the Manawatu games HELPED me in the end (edging Simon by 1 point), so in fact it was VERY close. The fact that Simon predicted 8 of 11 matches within 10 points is amazing, not to mention the Perfect Prediction early on.

I must now get back to enjoying the Rocky Mountains and the Calgary Stampede. Oh the hard life I live!

-Bryan

I'm turning green with envy/jealousy. If truth be told, I remember little of Jasper from my visit there! How is it? Where have you been so far? I plan Edmonton for next year's Women's RWC!

Congratulations to everyone who beat me (so, that's everyone then!) and thanks to Pablo for sorting it out again.
