The next mid-week game approaches and the Lions will want to get back to winning ways. (I should write intros for the sports channels! :D )

15. J Lewsey
14. J Robinson
13. B O'Driscoll (capt)
12. G Henson
11. G Thomas
10. J Wilkinson
9. D Peel

1. G Jenkins
2. S Byrne
3. J White
4. D Grewcock
5. B Kay
6. S Easterby
7. N Back
8. M Corry

Replacements G Bulloch, M Stevens, P O'Connell, L Moody, C Cusiter, S Jones, S Horgan

The back-line picked certainly looks to be very strong - particularly with Lewsey, Thomas and O'Driscoll to hit the line, with Henson and Robinson complementing nicely.

Back returns from his suspension and I suspect he will want to put down a marker with his work-effort. Will work well with the grunt of Corry. But why is he playing Easterby? Good player, but he's out there as about 20th choice back row! (I admit to exaggeration). I really can't see the point of the size squad SCW took if he brings people out after injuries (or in this case, slight scare) anyway. As Graham Henry's said to the press, if he did that with New Zealand he'd be accused of cheapening the shirt - and rightly.

Ah well, provided they do the job I'll be satisfied. Another morning off me thinks... ;)

If that backline cant do it, then no back line ever will.

Here it is:

The Vodafone Wellington Lions team to play the British & Irish Lions at Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Wednesday, 15 June at 7:10pm is as follows:

1 Joe McDonnell (Captain)
2 Mahonri Schwalger
3 Tim Fairbrother
4 Luke Andrews
5 Ross Filipo
6 Kristian Ormsby
7 Ben Herring
8 Thomas Waldrom
9 Piri Weepu
10 Jimmy Gopperth
11 Roy Kinikinilau
12 Tane Tu’ipulotu
13 Ma’a Nonu
14 Lome Fa’atau
15 Shannon Paku

16 Luke Mahoney
17 John Schwalger
18 Kane Thompson
19 Justin Purdie
20 Riki Flutey
21 Tamati Ellison
22 Cory Jane

I get the feeling that we're in for a cracking game! With the Lions naming an awesome back-line and Wellington putting up Fa'atau, Nono, Tu'ipulotu and Kinikinilau in the outside backs there will be fire-works. Gopparth had an outstanding Super 12 given that there were critics of his selection for the Hurricanes, but he worked well with Weepu so it will be a close match.

Third time lucky - Lions by 10.

Why is Scott Waldrom not playing???

Anyway, two very exciting backlines should make for a high-scoring match.
