Hi Guys

I have been given a referee coach for next season and I want to buy my own radio.

Basically I want the coach to be able to hear what I am saying when refereeing.

I have looked around and can't find anything suitable.

Please can somebody tell me what they use.

Thanks

David

David,

Can't recommend anything really, most stuff tends to be pretty expensive AFAIK, but it is possible your Society might have some kit.

Otherwise, what I have done is bought a dictaphone, record the game via a tie mic, and then play it back later, it is an incredibly useful tool!

Hope that helps.

I believe the RFU have a group deal on the full team of 3 radios mike and ear pieces + advisor kit, or you can get just a mike and receiver (for coach).

Contact Colin Macdonald at Castlecroft on 01902 380280
email : colinmacdonald@rfu.com

There must be laods of other possibilities and if I get time I will do a web search - lot's of other sports use this sort of kit.

To get you started just from a simple Google search I did on "walkie talkie"

FINALLY bought a shnazzy radio/reciever set on Friday and used it in my match yesterday with the Referee coach. Crystal clear quality and no feedback and they run on 2 AA batteries for 6 hours, so there's no need for recharging etc. They're the Sony UWP-C1 model and highly rated.

Are we into the area of coaches providing in match input ... or is it just for the coach to listen and provide post match comment and advice?

Coach has receive only Mike - no way can we have referee coaches sending in advice during the match !

Even Nigel Spencer is restricted in what he is allowed to do with our Young Officials and is limted to safety issues only.

I use this system in the USA:
Motorola T5820 2-Way Radio

Available at Costco over here, or via Amazon. At $65 (ish), might actually be cheaper to buy here and get shipped over!
