  • RWC 2015 Referee - Pascal Gazre

With just a handful of tier one Internationals to his name, Pascal Gazre is one of the most inexperienced test referees in the RWC team. One of three French referees in this years Rugby World Cup, Pascal has been looked upon highly by the World Rugby Referee selectors. Pascal is also a graduate of the Junior World Championships in 2009 & 2010.

His most prominent match to date has been the New Zealand v Argentina game in the 2014 Rugby Championship.

Born 1977 in Les Landes in SW France, the 38 year old referees first love was basketball, but he also played flanker for US Dax and it was there, with time on his hands while serving several-week suspension, that he took up refereeing - at first being involved in youth games. Pascal continued to referee and play for a number of years until deciding, at the young age of 25, that his potential as a referee was far greater than as a player.

He rose quickly through the French ranks, making his Top 14 debut in 2005/6 and refereeing his first international (Barbarians v South Africa) in 2010.

Pascal has also refereed in the Pro12 and the European Championship, and in June 2015 he was in the centre for the Top 14 Final.

Pascal has currently been appointed to referee four games for the group stages of the Rugby World Cup, these are:

    • Australia v Uruguay
    • New Zealand v Georgia
    • South Africa v USA
    • Argentina v Namibia

Can I get a sanity check? Dying minutes of the game. Italy are piling on the pressure. Winger has ball in hand and is haring off to the goal line. Penaud comes in and slaps the ball; winger falls on the ball with his chest, in goal. Decision: knock on. Scrum France. My instinctive reaction...

WAL v IRE - in at the side

    Thread Starter: belladonna

Was Tadhg Beirne unlucky to get pinged for in at the side? I felt he wasn't, and that it was a fair call - but my friend watching with me, and some of the commentators, and the Telegraph all say he was harshly pinged. What do people think?

At the back of a ruck , 9 fishes out the ball and passes to a stationary pod So no one is moving The pod is 15m away from the 9, 1m back . There is a strong headwind so to pass to the pod the ball actually leaves the 9 slightly forwards, curving in flight back to the pod Who would...
