As we approach the start of the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England, we are going to look at what the term 'Clear & Obvious' means to a referee, and the greater team of 4 in general.

During the world cup, the match officials will be under a greater degree of scrutiny than has ever been seen before, the desire to get every decision correct is there, but perfection is something even that even the best teams have not yet achieved.

Perfection for a team would surely mean that no player drops a ball, every pass goes where intended, every tackle is made, and every kick is successful. However, as supporters we understand that this is near impossible to do over a full 80 minutes. The dynamics of the game, along with the unpredictability of the opposition defence means that mistakes will happen, but it's how you over come them that really defines the team.

Should a normal Lineout be permitted, when it's short of the LoT?

    Thread Starter: VM75

https://youtu.be/fYKSMK7o4M8?t=1741 In this Clip, NZAB hooker sets his throwing position some 2 - 2.5m short of the LoT, despite the AR clearly marking it otherwise. Was it necessary for JP to use time to reposition the LO, surely if the thrower doesn't want to stand on the LoT but instead...

    Sneaky QTI

    Thread Starter: didds

Anybody else notice this nicely sneaky QTI "move" last saturday by the MAB? They did it twice (not sure when the other instance is) so I do think its pre-planned, or at least pre-considered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqNGshZBhJg&feature=youtu.be&t=2860 MAB catches ball in touch,...

Lions tour -lack of yellow cards

    Thread Starter: Novice-Ref

Just watching the Hurricanes match and for me there is once again a continual reluctance for referees to a) issue warnings b) issue yellow cards for the escalation of technical penalties. Players are getting wind of this and it is having a negative effect on the game. Agree?
