As we approach the start of the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England, we are going to look at what the term 'Clear & Obvious' means to a referee, and the greater team of 4 in general.

During the world cup, the match officials will be under a greater degree of scrutiny than has ever been seen before, the desire to get every decision correct is there, but perfection is something even that even the best teams have not yet achieved.

Perfection for a team would surely mean that no player drops a ball, every pass goes where intended, every tackle is made, and every kick is successful. However, as supporters we understand that this is near impossible to do over a full 80 minutes. The dynamics of the game, along with the unpredictability of the opposition defence means that mistakes will happen, but it's how you over come them that really defines the team.

    Removal of post-protector mid-game

    Thread Starter: oliver

Here's one I've never seen before. In the Bay of Plenty v Counties Manukau game this weekend, BOP are attacking the CM line. One of the CM players removes the post-protector (let's assume he just wanted to defend the line more easily and it wasn't a more cynical removal). The referee immediately...

I have a game coming up in a couple of weeks at a club I have not refereed at for a couple of years. This has reminded me of an incident form last time I was there, what would you do... Away team, score a try, I signal as such, then walk in at straight line away from the goal line, noting the...

I hate these weird touch scenarios !

    Thread Starter: crossref

From my game yesterday, green kick for touch , black 11 jumps from the field of play to try and knock the ball back in play , but his knock is unsuccessful, the ball still lands in touch (as does black 11) So whose throw is it ? It all depends on whether the ball had passed the plane, doesn't...

this is from Northampton v Saracens yesterday https://youtu.be/Pu9S-p6z6gk?t=4726 Q1 - again, despite what the commentators say, this is all about the plane of touch right? Q2 - and the new Laws haven't changed anything, have they? same as last year Q3 - given this, which side of the...
