Hi all!

I'm watching some matches from last weekend's London's Sevens.

On the Spain vs Zimbabwe match, this happened: Very high restart kick that bounces about two feet from the 10m line and goes nearly vertical again. No player from either team touches the ball, but a spaniard -the team which kicked- is near the ball, possibly in front of the ball.

Referee blows for not 10. AFAIK, there is no seven-a-side variation regarding this piece of law (only about the sanction: re-kick/scrum vs free kick) and it is not stated anywhere that the ball should travel 10m in the air -grubber dropkick is a legal restart kick if it goes 10m-.

Shouldn't the ref have waited until the ball was played by the kicking team, crossed the 10m line or come to a stop?

Could the spaniard (if he was in front of the ball and preventing the zimbabweans to play it if the wished) have been pinged for offside?

I always thought that if the ball was over the goal line, no tackle, ruck or maul could be formed, and any that had been formed prior was ended. Given this, and assuming the ball was over the line, I reckon Daniel Braid was hard done by.

On Saturday Quins v Northampton this happened. Quins took the QTI and creating a try-scoring opportunity, but Andrew Small called them back to allow Saints YC to return.

(Ironically ten minutes earlier Quins had taken a quick tap, and were called back for that, to give Small time to give him the YC!).

Question: Hi there, I was wondering what the official interpretation is when a scrum turnover happens after the 80 minutes are up? I've seen it ruled two different ways this season in the Super 15. (Highlanders vs Crusaders and Force vs Waratahs if I remember correctly).
Cheers
Stu Berry: Hi Jack. It’s an interesting one, and you are spot on. A scrum that collapses and gets reset is the same scrum, and so is incomplete. A scrum that is a turnover through 90 degrees is a new scrum, and so time needs to be called once the turnover has been completed.
