Outcome-deciding PT with clock in the red

Glad it wasn't just me - I think he has the YC in the raised hand as he awards the PT. Two different referees - a couple years ago, my society inherited a referee on the pathway. That referee wasn't on this game, but did get a center ref assignment at this event.

Outcome-deciding PT with clock in the red

I worked this event last year, so can confirm that they were mic'd up. The referees picked for these games are either already on the National Panel, or are on that pathway. If the center ref is who I think it is, I worked with him last year at this event, and he doesn't really respond to AR...

Outcome-deciding PT with clock in the red

This is Division 2, so most players know what they're doing, even if the fitness isn't up to par 1-23. I can't comment on the overall performance, given that I haven't seen the full match, but consensus within my society's WhatsApp group chat is that the ref was flat-footed at the end. Given...

Outcome-deciding PT with clock in the red

Link to stream, start around 1:40:00 Men’s D2 round of 16, so high stakes. I haven’t seen it with audio yet, so reserving judgment. On principle, I agree with the PT. Due to the clock being in the red, the YC loses its effectiveness.

    Boot selection & sizing

Would love Asics, but won't touch them until I am able to try on pairs before buying. Three "big box" sporting goods stores near me (Scheels, Academy, Dicks), and none carry Asics studded boots. I found these on the Asics website, but I have had sizing issues for years, and do not want to have...

    Bath vs Saracens

This - the 'use it' law does not say anything about the defense not being allowed to counter-ruck once the call is made. As long as it is legal, I see no issue with the defense trying to disrupt the attacking 9 in this way.

Where are you this weekend - 2023/24?

Staying local, Columbia (MO) is making the trek for a Div 3 friendly. Weather permitting, hoping to convince partner to bring the young'un to her first live game.

Where are you this weekend - 2023/24?

The only ones I've ever used are Audio Pros, and it's been a mixed bag - when they work, they're amazing, but at times getting them to work is damn near rocket surgery.

Where are you this weekend - 2023/24?

This very much depends on the center ref. When AR'ing with radios, I always ask the center ref what they want/need from us. Some want more, some want less. If I'm on the side with the sides and there's no #4, I'll ask what they want re: subs.

Where are you this weekend - 2023/24?

When I've had mics, the earpiece loop is adjustable, so that it fits snug to the ear - if the wearer has issues, then athletic tape around the ear comes into play. Re: open mic/PTT - in the hardware I've used, the set-up is that only the center gets the open mic, and the ARs get PTT. Re...

    Jumper Dummy Throw

Came up in my society's group chat, and found that there's nothing in law accounting for it At a lineout, the jumper catches the ball off the top. Jumper then dummies a pass; the defensive line buys it and comes up, now offside because the ball hasn't left the lineout. General consensus is to...

Where are you this weekend - 2023/24?

Still in the height of college 7s season, this time in Champaign. Fingers crossed for more competitive games - of the seven games I had Sunday, only two were not blowouts.

    Tackle height stuff

At the time I posted, there was an effort within my GU (Midwest) to implement the tackle height and late/low trials, but once USAR got wind that both trials would be implemented, the national office threatened to yank insurance coverage. Paired with said threat was an indication that an...

4th and 5th officials in the pro game

TZ - technical zone We were physically on the same side of the pitch as the teams, so anyone who needed info from us could physically come up to us and ask. The #4/#5 did this quite a bit when we had multiple timers to juggle.

4th and 5th officials in the pro game

I can only speak to my experience, having worked the TZ just this past weekend for a MLR game. There was an timekeeper in the TZ, who was responsible for the official time. He had an earpiece to listen to the ref comms, and had a push-to-talk radio for coordinating with the stadium/broadcast...

    Tackle height stuff

At the national level, the tackle height changes will be in effect starting 9/1/24 (the competition year runs Sep-Aug). At the regional/local level, they are in effect immediately (excepting Super Regionals/Nationals events for the 2023/4 competition year and U19).
