Outcome-deciding PT with clock in the red

Outcome-deciding PT with clock in the red

Thanks very much. I didn’t watch all the match but dipped in and out of a good chunk of it to get a flavour of it and to look at how the ref was doing during the game. I was wondering how to assess his performance against our level of referees in a similar level/type of game. I’m not really any...

Outcome-deciding PT with clock in the red

You mean the one the referee awarded the PT for and not the ones he missed or ignored?:)

Outcome-deciding PT with clock in the red

Not seen a USA game before. I realise that it is some sort of Division 2 match, but how does this fit into the hierarchy of levels in the USA? Would the local ‘assessors’/players/coaches regard this overall as a good/satisfactory/poor refereeing performance? I certainly agree with Dickie about...

When do your grounds get closed?

My experience is that community rugby clubs that play on land owned by a council tend to have more games cancelled because of the cost involved in bringing them back to standard after being badly cut up during a game and more adverse weather the following week would make it even worse. It also...

Restarting the second half with a penalty.

You are correct. The referee should have awarded the penalty and ensured its conclusion before blowing for half time.

World Rugby phased plan to grow the sport

Thanks for info. Is the 20 min RC seen as a success and widely supported?

    Equally fair comment.

World Rugby phased plan to grow the sport

Doesn’t sufficiently punish outright thuggery? E.G. select a player to take out the game winning goal kicker? Just a thought off the cuff.

World Rugby phased plan to grow the sport

I don’t think anyone is against RCs. We all want the game to be safer and correct techniques to be encouraged by their appropriate application. I think the top end of the game is lucky enough to have TMOs and replays etc to enforce the fair application and a degree of consistency of the laws...

World Rugby phased plan to grow the sport

That’s the sort of approach I was suggesting, but not in so much detail.:) No process or sanction is ever straightforward in our game but we won‘t know if something is better until we try it.

World Rugby phased plan to grow the sport

The top end of the professional game does have fewer RCs than a few years ago. I think this is because they realised that they were ruining the ‘contest’. Now it seems to me that there is far more mitigation applied due to the numerous cameras available. I do not think that the actions of the...

    Penalty Try *and* penalty restart

In the version of the laws prior to the simplification the mention of awarding a penalty at the place of restart after a dead ball was under foul play. 10.4n There was no specific mention of after a try, just offences after a dead ball situation. The wording was not much different to what is in...

    Penalty Try *and* penalty restart

I believe Law 20.1 covers it. After ball is dead the penalty is where play would restart.
