The Dynamics of a Tip Tackle

With the recent sending off of a player in a high profile Rugby World Cup play-off match, the Dangerous Tip Tackle has become a focus of much of the rugby public, and the seemingly heretofore unknown "Spear Tackle Memorandum" has received its greatest public airing since it was first promulgated by the IRB in June 2009.

If you look through ALL of these better known examples of sanctioned tip tackles, in every case, you can clearly identify each of what I call the five "tells" of a tip-tackle.

    The tackler
    ► Comes to a stop
► Grasps the ball carrier below the hips

The iRB have been stamping down on Tip tackles and Spear Tackles since 2007 and have ...

    What do you give?

    Thread Starter: TheBFG

I've noticed this a lot in recent weeks, not sure why it's becoming more common? Ball carrier is tackled, tackler and ball carrier on the floor. Now either the ball carrier or the first arriving support player (ball carriers side) holds the tackler in? Now of course i know they're trying to...

TJ report of abuse - action?

DYCWhat would be your approach if you had a club TJ report abuse from a player? I did not hear it but knew something was going on due to the attitude of the TJ who was engaging with members of the opposing team after a try. i asked him to let me deal with it and later reported a player had...
