A while ago during my search for prizes and items for auctions for the upcoming 10th anniversary of RugbyRefs.com I managed to make contact with former Test Match Referee, now iRB Referee Selector & Head of SANZAR Referees Lyndon Bray. (Pictured Left).

I wasn't very sure what I could ask/beg for from Lyndon, considering that the individual unions are in charge of their referees' kit, so I asked if he would mind answering a few questions. Lyndon replied within minutes congratulating us on the significant milestone and agreeing to answer some questions.

So then the hunt was on, I posted a thread and allowed the members to choose the top questions by way of liking the posts they thought were worthwhile. After just over a week I collated all the questions, and sent them on to Lyndon for answer.

Considering Lyndon's place on the iRB I also thought it was a great opportunity to clear up a couple of areas of law that we believed needed more clarity and Lyndon was again happy to give his opinion.

So, Without further ado, here are the questions that our members put to Lyndon, and of course, his answers:

    Question 1:
We have seen in this year's edition of Super Rugby (especially in the latter half of the season), a tendency for referees to rule that the ball is "out" of a ruck when the halfback has a hand ...

RugbyRefs.com has once again been contacted by the West Coast RFU www.westcoastrfu.com as they have a shortage of refs at present.

In a bid to improve the situation they are looking for referees aged 30 & under from the UK, Ireland, & Australia and can assist with working holiday visas, finding employement, and finding accommodation

The West Coast RFU is very experienced in bringing players to their union, and will use this experience to assist willing volunteers. The West Coast RFU are more than happy to do the same for any refs that would like to come out here for a rugby adventure.

So if you, or any referees you know are interested in an exiting Kiwi adventure, Adam Gilshnan of the West Coast RFU would love to talk to you. Their season is starting soon, and the club season ends in late July.

Please note, the West Coast RFU are not in a position to pay referees, as they are an amateur organisation, but if any refs were to come out they'd have a great time, experience a different lifestyle and improve the West Coast's, and their own skills.

If you think this opportunity would suit you then contact Adam using his email address: adamgilsh@hotmail.com, He'd be happy to phone/skype you to talk more about it.

Adam is very skilled at getting working holiday visa's etc, and is always keen to help with any assistance, and to share any advice.

Don't delay, take this opportunity whilst it lasts, it doesn't come along for referees very often.

    Thread Starter: L'irlandais

Saracens face Premiership relegation if found to have breached salary cap again The defending champions received a 35-point deduction and a 5.3m fine in November, having broken the cap for the past three seasons. However, there is widespread belief they will once more struggle to get under the...

    Thread Starter: vimpe22

I wish to discuss and or seek views on the difference in of law 19.28 which says start of play ( is this when you call for a scrum) and and law 29.30 which says scrum begins ( which is when the ball, leaves the hand of the scrum half) 27;. Players remain onside for the duration of the scrum....

    Place of Conversion kick

    Thread Starter: crossref

Unusual one for me at the weekend ... The kicker asked if he could move the ball away from the line of the try .. but away from the posts, ie a bit closer to the touchline . This was to get out of a big patch of mud

Is there a definition of a kicking tee?

    Thread Starter: ctrainor

Question from my old club as the their ref banned them from using two cones. Difficult for me to picture but apparently. The kicker laid two standard training cones on the ground one at 45 degrees laying on top of the other. The ref said you can't have separate devices and they must be one piece?...

High Leg boots Quins v Clermont

    Thread Starter: GingerSeaMonster

Did anyone else notice the boots that the replacement prop for Clermont was wearing? The camera even zoomed in on them, in the 67th minute (I don't know how to put a link to this in this post. Luddite) The commentators also mentioned them. They were likened to the sort a boxer would wear, but...
