RugbyRefs.com is delighted to offer you the chance to compete against each other on two competitions for the Rugby World Cup.

We have a Prediction Comp, for predicting Match winners & margins, and a Fantasy comp for those who are a little more into their rugby, to see if they can manage their perfect team.

The two comps are hosted by SuperBru and are open to RugbyRefs.com people on all utilised platforms (website, Facebook & Twitter).

You have 13 days to get your selection in for the first round, and to select your ultimate team for the Fantasy competition.

A while ago during my search for prizes and items for auctions for the upcoming 10th anniversary of RugbyRefs.com I managed to make contact with former Test Match Referee, now iRB Referee Selector & Head of SANZAR Referees Lyndon Bray. (Pictured Left).

I wasn't very sure what I could ask/beg for from Lyndon, considering that the individual unions are in charge of their referees' kit, so I asked if he would mind answering a few questions. Lyndon replied within minutes congratulating us on the significant milestone and agreeing to answer some questions.

So then the hunt was on, I posted a thread and allowed the members to choose the top questions by way of liking the posts they thought were worthwhile. After just over a week I collated all the questions, and sent them on to Lyndon for answer.

Considering Lyndon's place on the iRB I also thought it was a great opportunity to clear up a couple of areas of law that we believed needed more clarity and Lyndon was again happy to give his opinion.

So, Without further ado, here are the questions that our members put to Lyndon, and of course, his answers:

    Question 1:
We have seen in this year's edition of Super Rugby (especially in the latter half of the season), a tendency for referees to rule that the ball is "out" of a ruck when the halfback has a hand ...

I wish I could sit back and regale you with tales of my Super Rugby and Test refereeing career, but I cannot. My career as a referee peaked some time ago, and it was more like a small hill than a soaring peak. I am not holding my breath waiting for the phone call inviting me into the Super Rugby referees Squad, but just in case Lyndon my number is in the book. These days I spend more time coaching referees than refereeing, but I am happy with that. I see my job now as helping develop the next generations of referees. Inevitably among the young guys, the question comes - So what does it take ...

Use of Cards in Mini Rugby

    Thread Starter: Flish

Not looking for a debate, as 99% sure (in RFU land) the answer is no, no cards, but I am looking for a reference to policy, or best practice that I can circulate, but am finding nothing in Reg 15, the NROP for minis, or anything else. I have found this -...

Holding the lifted catcher in the air.

    Thread Starter: Ian_Cook

I have noticed an increasing trend with teams, especially on defence close to their goal-line, deliberately keeping their lineout catcher up to try to milk a PK for early driving. While it is the responsibility of the non ball-winning team to ensure they don't drive until the lifted catcher's feet...

I was AR in a game recently, a few levels above my reffing level. Red 14 had the ball inside the blue 22 and kicked ahead down the touchline, red 15 jumps to block the kick and deliberately IMO moves his body (leg) to impede Red 14 who goes to ground. I flag the incident and look back to...

    Change of shirts

    Thread Starter: crossref

RFU league game at the weekend , the two teams had very similar shirts so I made the home team change No grumbles, but the home team have no spare shirts and they turn their shirts inside out... So now we have resolved the colour clash .. but they have no numbers. So, in RFU world what are the...

    Discussions with Captains

    Thread Starter: Jarrod Burton

While I was watching the Wallabies v All Blacks last night I noticed that Wayne Barnes listed the Australian Players that he was watching or had a chat with while talking with the All Blacks captain. I can't see any justification for this and if anything it provides an unfair advantage to one team...
