Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

We've just put our availability in. I have a youth pre season friendly at my own club to sharpen the brain (and legs) ready for 7 Sept.

My ambition for the season is to AR for Marc W :)

[INTERNATIONAL] Re: Kurtley beale - lucky to stay on the field?

It was red for Scott all day long according to the flowchart. Very astutely picked by the referee.

Kurtley's also appears to b a deliberate cheap shot shoulder charge to the neck area after the...

Can you heel a ball out of the hands? :^)

Neither England or Wales as far as I can see - certainly nothing was mentioned at the recent Dragons/Blues regions refs conference.

I think we have enough on our plates with the high tackle /...

    [Ruck] Re: Jackaling

Exactly as Arabchief says - although I'd add a couple of things. I am a newish ref but played lock or 6 for 25+ years so have a good idea of what the law says and also what players generally get...

The timing wasnt half a second later it was milliseconds. The closest of close calls but I agree with Crossref in thst this sort of scenario is what the law is trying to prevent. Even if we argue...

Re: 2 new laws for NRC at the end of August

Its a good question - if it's going to be the same as a 22 then there's no great advantage over a 5m scrum - and at least with that we have the forwards bound in and space created.

Re: 2 new laws for NRC at the end of August

I like the goal line drop out for held-up. It might lead to some interesting aerial battles but I guess will mainly go to touch as infield kicks will see the full oppo 15 quickly on the attack.

Penalty only but borderline yellow card for me, but that's with the benefit of seeing this clip several times now. Reffing in real time on my own? Don't honestly know! :)

Re: RWC Japan 2019 - Predictions

I'm going to go out on a limb and back a resurgent RSA to meet Wales in the final, assuming Wales dont break too many more in training.

I suspect France will do better than anyone thinks they...

  15. [Scrum] Re: New scrum law to be introduced immediately, apparently...

We even had a conference on Sunday with free buffet! (Did I manage to miss you Marc?)

The axial loading thing was mentioned, along with a thorough briefing on the new high tackle stuff and with a...
  16. [Scrum] Re: New scrum law to be introduced immediately, apparently...

I think if is defensible since it is an abbreviated form of opponents' heads.

If it were written "opponent's" there would be an implication that each of their opponents has more than one head.
  17. [Scrum] Re: New scrum law to be introduced immediately, apparently...

The thing that doesn't tend to be referred is the requirement for props to support their own weight on at least one foot. If they have both feet back they cannot do this.

    In my experience over...

    Re: Next season's trials..

At community second team level I think there might be merit in trialling reduced team sizes too - maybe 12 a side with one centre and no flankers, just 8 in the back row. Better spectacle for the...

The idea seens to be to create more space and to create gaps in the defence which *might* lead to more running moves and less collisions, making it less RL-like..

    Re: Next season's trials..

I can see the off feet at ruck amendment being difficult to ref at grassroots level. 50:22 without ARs will be a nest of vipers too..
