    [7's/10's] Re: Sevens positioning

Touch rugby style for sure. Run just behind the defensive line, attackers coming towards you. Be prepared to sprint a lot whenever there's a line break or a turnover! :swet:

    And remember, fines if...

    Re: Shirt Pulling

Just realised thereís a third and fourth tug as well. Those would seem to be playing the man without the ball.

    Re: Shirt Pulling

The first player whose shirt he pulls falls over, which I think could legitimately be considered collapsing a ruck.

If we ignore that one for the purposes of the thought experiment, Iím not sure...
  5. [Law] Re: what is a the definition of a kick in open play?

I find your "natural view of the laws" curiously inconsistent. On the one hand:

Yet a "natural view" of a knock-up could also legitimately be viewed as:

    Possession: An individual ......
  6. [Law] Re: what is a the definition of a kick in open play?

The first criterion for a knock-on requires only that a player in possession loses the ball forward - it makes no mention of hand or arm.

At what point does the playerís possession end? For me,...
  7. [Law] Re: what is a the definition of a kick in open play?

A very different situation. The person heading the ball was not the one originally in possession. They therefore neither a) lost it forward, nor b) hit the ball forward with hand or arm, nor c)...
  8. [Law] Re: what is a the definition of a kick in open play?

The womenís USA v Barbarians game brings us an incident that prompted me to revisit this thread: https://twitter.com/florugby/status/1121916930833756160?s=21

Iím still struggling to view this as...

    Re: Medium Force

I canít see any mitigating factors whatsoever. Looked clear to me that Green 13 lined up for a deliberate headshot. Agree with consensus on here - very surprised it wasnít red.

[Law] Re: Does a penalty try count as a conversion?

Agree with all the above. Were I on the organising committee, I would view a PT as counting towards the total number of conversions - only seems fair.

But since I'm not on the organising...

    [Maul] Re: Turning maul

Agreed. And shout as much too, so there's no doubt - while it's legal, it looked odd, so a bit of proactive communication can work wonders.

[Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

Another straw man. Nobody is saying that. Try addressing the actual argument.

[Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

    (my bolding of your words)

Your comparison is invalid. If it's something that goes wrong, then it's an accident, not a choice.

A better analogy would be if a player aimed a box kick...

[Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

Yes. The tackle was dangerous, regardless of injury or outcome. Had the ball carrier walked away unscathed, I would have considered him lucky... but would still have viewed the tackle as illegal.

[Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

Many thanks for posting this. It runs longer than the Twitter post, and notably the referee dishes out a yellow card for the incident. Red vs. yellow is always a judgement call, but it's good to see...

[Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

I don't buy into any of the arguments about intent, or "unfortunate", or whether it was a "true" lift, etc. Nobody can reasonably deny that the actions of the tackler resulted in the tackled player...

[Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

[Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

Appreciate the opposing view. Where I take issue with this is that I don't think the absence of a [b]lift[b] exonerates him - the tackler is pretty clearly the cause of the ball carrier being...
