    Had something similar in a 16A semi final a couple of weeks ago. Black player drops the ball and hacks it off the side of his foot and basically sideways 10m or so. I could see 40m of open ground...

    Agree, first thing you tell youngsters as a coach is play the whistle - if you drop the ball don't get down on yourself and switch off, get it back

    Yep, keep it short and simple, then at next down time you can walk near the player and just say "you were fine back there but your mate hadn't rolled away"

    In Sydney you would have to have been refereeing at least a year, probably 2, before you go to that age group - they would generally...

    That would make sense, but to be consistent with other restarts it should be a 5m drop out. Also will it be like a 22 - anywhere along the line, like league from under the posts, or like the current...

    With the line drop out, where will the oppos be? If its the same as a 22 (ie they are on the goal line) its going to be hard on the kicker

    I'd be coaching my team to just pick & drive and approach contact by bending double - just draw penalties, and after 10 penalties in the first 5 minutes the oppos will start losing players...
