  1. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

That is a false dichotomy. The law proscribes certain talk such as defamation, racism etc.

(Apart from the fact that Folau is not discussing - he is pontificating.)

    [Law] Re: Offside oddity

    [edited later]
Technically Blue 9 is "ahead" of Blue 7, and so offside. If Blue 7 turns round and runs away from the ball, he can put Blue 9 onside. Similarly if Blue 9 overtakes him to get to the...

[Law] Re: Thrown Backwards, Bounces Forwards

A player juggling the ball is deemed to be in sufficient possession to justify tackling him for obvious practical reasons.

However he clearly does not have control. If he loses the ball forward...

    [Law] Re: Offside oddity

When Blue 7 fumbles backwards, that sets the offside line. The ball is now on the safe side of that line, so any Blue player who gets to it must have got past the offside line and is therefore onside.

[Law] Re: Thrown Backwards, Bounces Forwards

If, when juggling the ball, he loses control and the ball goes forwards I can see why it should be called a knock-on. However if while juggling he loses the ball backwards, I cannot see that as a...

[Law] Re: Mark from a penalty

It was only in 1992 that the right to make a Fair Catch from a knock-on or throw forward was removed from the Laws.

I had no idea that happened so late. I started playing in 1949 and do not...

The full mnemonic I learned was "When the sound is 'ee', I before E except after C."

That knocks out most (but not all) of your counter-examples.

That means that if a player falls on the ball, you can tackle him. Not sure that is a good idea.

[Scrum] Re: "Modern" interpretations of scrum dominance.

I remember being at Twickenham many years ago in the old South Stand on a freezing cold day. The pitch was frozen and England pushed Ireland back from 5 meters out (or was it yards?). The Irish...
  18. [Maul] Re: Puzzled by decision to disallow Ben Youngs' 'try' last Saturday..?

I think they are merely trying to avoid too much repetition.
  19. [Maul] Re: Puzzled by decision to disallow Ben Youngs' 'try' last Saturday..?

In my (limited) experience, referees with appointed ARs prefer to make that sort of call themselves unless it is blindingly obvious and they were looking the other way.
  20. [Maul] Re: Puzzled by decision to disallow Ben Youngs' 'try' last Saturday..?

Perhaps we should be checking to see if those forward passes were C&O?

Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

I am continually being told that 4G pitches do not exist. What we have are developments of the original 3G pitches.

Not that it makes any real difference.
