    Re: Lineout not 5m

It's not just the front two - also the jumper in the front pod reaching over and catching/trying to catch ahead of the oppos. FK for prevention, options for inability.
  2. [Scrum] Re: Where can the non-throwing SH go after ball thrown-in ?

He can't go back 4.9m and be legal - law says either ON the offside line at hindmost foot, or back 5m - stops them shuttling to and fro I guess.

[Scrum] Re: Law check - scrum turnover

If you are team of one, suggest you stay mostly blindside for scrums so you can scan the backs as well as the scrums. They can see you, and you can not only shout a warning, but also wave them back...

[Assistant Referees] Re: Referee A Floodlit Game

Yes. My call, agreed by both captains - could hardly see the posts at the far end in the fading light. No issues. About 70 mins as I recall.

[Tackle] Re: How can this not be red

You can see from the replay that the head also makes contact with (ie is slammed down with similar force) the ground. Red card.

    [Mini/Midi] Re: Age-Grade crib-sheet for wallet (England)

Neat summary - but with U16/17/18 oppo scrum halves can follow but need to keep both feet behind the ball, and aren't just stuck on the centre line. Hants RFU used to be the place to go for these...

    [Law] Re: Ear lobe tunnels

For me it comes under 4 / 5.d Jewellery. It may or may not be soft and harmless, I'm not going to examine it and not going to take a chance. Tape it up please. If it's taken out, I don't want blood...

    [Law] Re: Ear lobe tunnels

It was a colts game, so played as U18 - I don't query the players' age, not my problem. I don't see it as more complicated - I would do the same at adult level as well. Spotted a tongue piercing...

    [Law] Re: Ear lobe tunnels

I've had this in a Colts game, asked for it to be taped (a word with the coach), which was duly done with no issue, with hard tunnel removed. Even if there was a rubber plug I'd ask for it to be...

CR you may like to start a list of differences to add to your current list :-)
Here's what must be a typo from the WR list.

    [In-goal] Re: Fwd pass

As long as it travels straight 5m along line of touch and goes between the first pair I'm fine with whatever it does next. If it's windy I'll clarify what I'm expecting to see at the brief, perhaps...

    Scene 1 : lineout red
Scene 2 : kickoff by blue after try scored

Yes, they have elected to play, unsuccessfully.

And if it had bounced on 8 and gone over the 10, that would be play on as well.

    Re: Standing Water

Agree completely on this 'protocol'. That goes for any pitch surface, wet, dry, frosty, iced, snowed on, baked. I've rarely had to call a game off, but it's always been accepted when I do, and it's...

Re: No Maul Obstruction at lien out in over time

It was a penalty, it's now a scrum for if there's no engagement and the oppo lineout slides out of the way without a backward step. Oh, and you've shouted Use It and they've ignored you.

    [Law] Re: Scrum ends

Surely as soon as he picks up the ball, the scrum is over? And if he remains bound then his players in the scrum are obstructing? I would try and manage the situation by either calling the ball out...

[Tackle] Re: Dragging away a player trying to tackle

Both versions contain 'ref is sole judge of law and fact' during the game ( 6(a)4(a) migrates to 6/5/a), so presenting the law book to me after the match is irrelevant, however frustrating that may...

[Kit] Re: How do you use your watches ? Stoppages etc ?

It can get complicated if the YC runs across halves, as you need to note when the half finished (rarely bang on 40 mins), and ensure that is taken into account in the second half. With everything...

[Law] Re: Time Expired + PK/Lineout?

As I blew for the second penalty I realised I'd not thought about having another situation like this in the same game. I couldn't think of a reason not to let it happen, so we carried on. Thought I'd...

    [Law] Time Expired + PK/Lineout?

Encountered this in my game last Saturday, and wondered what the brains here would advise.

PK for red after time expires - captain asks if they can kick for the lineout - yes. They take...

    [Tackle] Re: Penalty .

I expect the tackler to release first, as more often than not they are preventing the BC doing anything. So there's some leeway for the BC to start with. If in my view the BC is not prevented from...

Re: How is this not a YC or RC?

This is an automatic YC for me because of the speed - charging into a ruck 10.4(h) "A player must not charge into a ruck or maul".
  25. [Ruck] Re: A little help require on the ruck at under 10's level

Watch also for 'sealing off', where they grab the bc and put their head over - this is a safety issue as well as preventing access to the ball. They may also be off their feet (weight on player) and...
