[Junior] Re: U14 Rugby - Lineout

This happens all the time, the variations wording is pretty poor so we go with the FAQ for the detail, coaches very rarely get as far as seeing that doc though

I'll try again, if it doesn't appear in the next minute then I've been booted off again!

    Can't post

If this works I look silly - however anyone else struggling to post / reply? I keep getting 500 errors?

    - - - Updated - - -

Yep, I look silly! It was in the questions forum, don't think there...

Re: Bound in but not bound (Maul)

Sure, if he got there legally and others are legally bound to hold him in there then fine, if he gets moved loose though straight out

[Law] Re: Knock on into the dead ball area.

Which is why we need more words in the law book, not less - similar confusion happens with a charge down into in goal - is that 'played' or not - pretty sure I've called that one both ways now (and...

[Law] Re: Knock on into the dead ball area.

Phil's explanation is a better way or explaining my 'too much advantage' earlier, and broadly how explained to me by an assessor (which you admit is the expected outcome).

    In terms of law, again...

[Law] Re: Knock on into the dead ball area.

All law elements in and around advantage which leave it at the referees judgement - so no, not possible to base it on a specific law - but you know that

[Law] Re: Knock on into the dead ball area.

Yup, scrum 5, a 22 would be way too much advantage

Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

Unexpected first - double header as AR2 for Durham County U16s vs Northumberland (As and Bs) tomorrow, two good refs swapping Ref and AR1 duties so expect to be looked after

[Ruck] Re: Under 10's - Rucking

At U10 the ruck is 1v1 contesting (2v2 if you include the ball carrier and tackler). You would be looking to protect the 9 and encourage the ball to be passed away at this age, but if the ball ends...

Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

Late starter this decade with my first run out Ryton vs Blyth (DN2 Level 8) table and results suggest a solid home win - this will be my third L8 game in recent months so hoping to justify a grade...

Re: Pulling a player from the ruck/tackle

Yet the kids see Maro Itoje pulling players out of the ruck (Ok TWOL in example below not technically a ruck but first example I found!) on TV and copy (including my son) so until they see it pinged...

[Law] Re: Hand Off or Fend to the face/head/neck

I called it as a handoff with excessive force, i got a puzzled expression, and then a wry grin from the player, he knew what he'd done and he knew I'd seen it.

No contact with the head would in...

[Law] Re: Hand Off or Fend to the face/head/neck

I have, and yellow carded to boot, hard to describe in words, but it looked all kinds of wrong, ball carrier running at near top speed down the wing, oppo winger some 15m in front crouched low and...

[Golden Oldies] Re: Reports on Referee post-game on WhosTheRef

"I'm the best referee they thought good enough for you lads" - or similar normally gets a smile, some players have to think about it :-)

[Golden Oldies] Re: Reports on Referee post-game on WhosTheRef

This is the approach I take, not always easy, and works both ways (a positive experience could be negative next time and vice versa), the referees equivalent of 'leave it on the pitch'. Not always...

[Golden Oldies] Re: Reports on Referee post-game on WhosTheRef

I think Levels are assumed as a few below the 1st team (for a second XV), at my club we have a Tyrells Premiership team as the first team, not sure what level that is as nationally appointed, but the...

[Golden Oldies] Re: Reports on Referee post-game on WhosTheRef

Always the possibility that the match grading / level is not entirely accurate, I've had a L11 friendly that was by all accounts a L8 and vice versa, so I take all those things with a pinch of salt....
  22. Re: Scrum Law 19.28 - scrum half position - your advice please

Exactly this, don't get me wrong 9 times out of 10 the grumbles are just grumbles (watch for gouging is my favourite pointless request from a captain of all time) but sometimes they're right, there...

    [Tackle] Re: Open play, non-maul

No, I don’t think it was a maul either (white player not bound and on feet - merely attempting a tackle) so I think I would be calling ‘use it now’
  25. [Assistant Referees] Re: Pushed by player - my fault for being in field of play?

I would expect a TJ to be treat with the same respect as any other match official, even if not an ‘official’ official - and would look at any verbals or pushing in the same manner
