[Law] Re: When to make the mark

Further to this, should play be halted or allowed to continue....

Blue score a try, the kicker is taking the kick. While he's lining it up his team mates retreat behind their 10m line and go into...
  3. Re: How's this season going re new law interprretations down in the weeds?

It doesn't really have a manufacturer stamp on it. I got it through a bundle of a refs book and whistle set. I also have an Acme Thunderer that I got from the soc. It's still in the packet ATM, but...
  4. Re: How's this season going re new law interprretations down in the weeds?

Yeah, I did. I wasn't 100% sure I would, but yeah I did. I felt that I'd done pretty well too. I was asked what I thought I'd done well, I gave my answers and my coach agreed.
  5. Re: How's this season going re new law interprretations down in the weeds?

Couple of positional tweaks and work on speed. Get a better whistle was mentioned too lol. But Scrum and LO management were really good. Communication with the players was good and signals were also...
  6. Re: How's this season going re new law interprretations down in the weeds?

Had 1 U16 game so far. Had 1 High tackle. No card needed. No flash points.

Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

Last weekend I had an Under 16 match. Montrose v Dundee. This weekend, nothing for refereeing, but I'm playing at Arbroath - Caledonia midlands Div 4 (if we can field a team that is lol).
  8. [Law] Re: Kickoff opposition not on or behind the 10-meter line

Related to this. What if the receiving team are all on or behind their 10m line with water carriers on the field? Do we wait till they're off the field and give them a wee prod if they're taking too...

[Law] Re: Advantage and running out.

    [QUOTE=OB..;362246]:biggrin:

In 1871 there was no need for an advantage law because the captain had to appeal to the umpires for an infringement (as in cricket).

Which could now earn you a YC...

    [Law] Re: Choke 'Tackle'

Go to ground with the ball - this is for a player who is either not held in a tackle or slips or ends up on the ground under their own steam. What's happening is a tackle situation where the player...

    [Law] Re: Choke 'Tackle'

Not sure if 13.1 would apply here. Reason being the BC has the ball already, 13.1 is for players going to the ground to gather it, so they can get up with the ball. Not players in possession, who go...

    [Law] Re: Choke 'Tackle'

Have a question as a player related to this. say I was the tackler (or assist). I've hands on ball, BC gets knee on the ground and immediately releases. Thus leaving me holding the ball on my feet....

    14.2 specifically states that ...

Being brought to ground means that the ball-carrier is lying, sitting or has at least one knee on the ground or on another player who is on the ground.

    Not...
  14. Re: How's this season going re new law interprretations down in the weeds?

Sorry. I meant to say I DON'T have an issue with it and think it SHOULD be allowed.

I was just checking that there was nothing prohibiting this. As it could possibly destabilise like in Axial...

[Law] Re: Scoring a try against the padding/post

Not convinced it's a serious question. However just in case Law 21.1 a and b-

    a) By holding it and touching the ground with it; or
    b) By pressing down on it with a hand or hands, arm or...
  16. Re: How's this season going re new law interprretations down in the weeds?

Just checking something. I was playing on Saturday. Had my opposite number leaning on me on "Crouch." Hand his hand leaning on my shoulder. I'm a LHP. I really have an issue with it and think that it...

    [Law] Re: "Knock-on"

Ummm - I'm not a mind reader, so obviously not. I think we're just beginning to get a bit ridiculous now. The very brief exchange we had, I believed that the ref was aware that the ball didn't go...

    [Law] Re: "Knock-on"

Human Dynamics - Bearing in mind this is deep into the 2nd half. Waaaaaay after the ref has made (in my opinion), error after error after error, been inconsistent irritated the captain already....

    [Law] Re: "Knock-on"

    1. I'm sure he'd say I was a gobby tw*t. The impression I got was that he was aware the ball didn't touch the 10's hands and was telling me that it didn't matter, as it was a knock on anyway.

To give a bit more context. I was playing standing right next to the ref at the LO. He played knock on advantage, they kick the ball - advantage over then it went out of play. I mentioned that it...

See, I get that. But technically I'm correct yeah? I'd like to think that as long as I was consistent with the call the teams wouldn't mind.

    [Law] "Knock-on"

    What's the call on this?

Ball tapped down from line-out, 9 catches and passes to the 10. Ball goes through 10's hands (without touching them), hits his stomach and falls forward to the ground.

[Law] Re: Charge down & off side

Yes, I'm aware of that. A failed catch (from a kick) that goes forward is just a knock-on. We don't call it something different, it's just a knock-on. I felt that in my comment that just mentioned a...
