    Re: New record

Many years ago, I was assessed on a match with a score line of 102-0. The assessor’s comments: “The best the referee could hope for was to give 30 people a bit of exercise”.

    [Assistant Referees] Re: Unappointed TJ

Interesting, the regulations used to say a citing could be made by “an accredited Referee Assessor/Advisor who has been officially appointed to attend the match by the RFU, a Referee Society, or by...

    [Assistant Referees] Re: Unappointed TJ

It’s a lot more complicated that just being from the club. There is a very strict protocol to follow or the case won’t be accepted.

    14. The citing must be:
    a) signed by the president, chairman,...

    RFU Regulation 19 Appendix 4:

We don't do that sort of thing - we get training in maintaining a poker face

[CLUB RUGBY] Re: Saracens breaching salary cap, yet again.

They may not be able to come straight back up. Promoted teams have to prove theyíve adhered to Premiership salary regulations for the past 2 seasons. Adherence for next season alone isnít enough,...

    Re: advantage story

Agreed, no issue with that at all. I was talking about a situation where the attackers are inside the defender’s 22 and the defenders commit an offence.

    Re: advantage story

It’s not about time or number of phases: it’s about gaining tactical or territorial advantage. The advice we’re asked to give is that, within the 22, a penalty advantage should either lead to a...

[Golden Oldies] Re: Reports on Referee post-game on WhosTheRef

I'm struggling to understand how you managed to get appointed, on only your second time out, to a Level 8 fixture.
  10. [Assistant Referees] Re: Pushed by player - my fault for being in field of play?

Regardless of whether you’re a TJ or an AR, Law 6 defines you as a match official. You are entitled to the protection that that status affords. Lay a hand on a TJ and off you go. No question.

[Law] Re: captain asking not to play advantage

You can manage this by telling Blue to wait until you’ve made the mark, and then decide just how quickly you want to make it.

Re: Do you walk through the tunnel after the game?

Just a little anecdote. My first ever senior match. I didn’t think it went that well. Was sure I’d missed a lot. Blew for full time and went walk about to retrieve my TJ flags that had been...

Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

Quite a step up. I think Stafford had the smallest refs room I’ve ever been in.

[Law] Re: Laws of Rugby Union - 1922

All sorted as a result of OB pointing me in the direction of the RFU museum who were extremely helpful.

We did think about trying to do a match in accord with the 1922 laws but the liability...

[Law] Laws of Rugby Union - 1922

A bit of an odd query but worth a try. My club has its centenary year in 2022 and weíve started planning a series of events to mark the occasion. Iíve been asked to try to track down the laws of...
  17. [Scrum] Re: New scrum law to be introduced immediately, apparently...

It might not have been necessary in terms of strict compliance with the new law, but itís certainly within the spirit of what World Rugby is trying to achieve. Good management Iíd say.

    [Scrum] Re: Uncontested scrums

With my Society head on, I would back my referee 100% and would expect him or her to have managed the situation as per OB’s advice. With my CB head on, I would expect the result to be the same. I...

    [Law] Re: Application of Laws

It's not quite an urban myth - the laws for the men's and women's game are the same now, but that wasn't always the case. See this document going back to 2015 where, subject to league level, 35...

[Scrum] Re: Sanction for not using it at the Scrum

This is covered in law 19.

Infringement/stoppage - Failure to “use it” at scrum, ruck or maul.

Location of scrum - In the scrum zone at the point closest to where the scrum, ruck or maul took...

  24. [Law] Re: Is spitting at an opposition player a red card ?

Red without question - but be prepared for the player to tell the disciplinary panel that he spat at the ground and in no way was it directed at another player.
