Re: So, about this framework then...

Fair, except I have seen cards and penalties for things that simply LOOKED dangerous, rather than actually BEING dangerous.

Those decisions are disproportionately against PIs

Re: So, about this framework then...

I'm not so sure. There are some PI players in my neck of the woods - not as many as California, but some.
They have two characteristics that differentiate them from most US players at a similar...

Re: RWC 2019 Japan - HIA

I'm not digging, but could someone explain how "expert care" facilitates better concussion recovery? Or is that the point that you were making?

Re: End of Game - Did I get it Right?

Did Mr Rolland say that it was occasionally Ok to let common sense trump law when a player used a referee as a shield and the try was awarded? He was of the opinion a scrum would have been the right...

Re: Jap v Sco - No Red Card?!?

This sounds eerily like the pushback on tip tackles that we had after Warburton got RCed.

We, and the players, adjusted and moved on.

Ireland are going to try to sidestep this in regulation 17:

    Re: RWC 2019 cancellations

If the Scotland match is canceled, we're out.

No serious sport, trying to host the biggest event in their calendar, would contemplate that as a possibility.

[RWC] Re: RSA vs ITA - Uncontested Scrums?

3.27.b is at odds with 3.17:
3.27.b: Is temporarily replaced (even if all the replacements have been used). The game cannot restart until the player who requires an HIA has been temporarily...

MOD: OK. Seriously. Last chance saloon now. Next one and you're done.

Disagreement is fine. Disagreement on interpretation is fine.

[RWC] Re: How are the RWC refs doing so far ?

    Your evidence for C) ?

And it doesn't stifle debate at all. The referees go through a rigorous assessment after the game
  14. [Tackle] Re: I wonder how the game would be if we, referees, actually implemented the Tackle L

Not necessarily. If I target your arms in the clearout, there's every chance you drop the ball.

[RWC] Re: How are the RWC refs doing so far ?

I think we circle the wagons when Coaches try to bag the referee in public.
They have formal channels through which they make comments and feedback. The referee will also be getting feedback.

[RWC] Re: How are the RWC refs doing so far ?

Here's what the episode taught us: Ireland can't adapt to calls that they aren't used to.

Right or wrong, it was clear that offside was an issue. So instead of taking a half step back, they kept...

[RWC] Re: Blue on Blue action

I think Mr Gauzere had a couple of moments when he started to say "scrum..." and he clearly was going to say "blue" but checked and said "Samoa".

Samoa and Scotland are polysyllabic. The advantage...
  19. [Law] Re: Ben vs Lei - Red card (Jumper in the Air)

Are you asking for what a lot of consider to be morally right, for want of a better phrase, or how the Law Lords have dictated these things be handled?

Because they are at odds with each other.

[RWC] Re: How are the RWC refs doing so far ?

We'll have to agree to disagree.
Schmidt is bagging Gardner, he's just doing it..subtly. I call that snide.

I'd also be a lot happier about it if Gardner had actually got the decisions wrong.
  25. Re: Injury fears over rugby's trans women drives referees away
