    [Maul] Re: Maul Law 16.8 & 16.9

Yeah, the only way its a scrum is if Blue had the Red ball carrier wrapped up before they went to ground. In this situation, they do not need to release her once they're on the deck. But other Blue...

    [Maul] Re: Maul Law 16.8 & 16.9

it's there to stop non-ball carriers from instigating the going to ground. And to stop non-ball carriers flopping over the ball to kill it.

One other thing to keep an eye for. Once it becomes...

    [Maul] Re: Maul Law 16.8 & 16.9

I'm reading the OP like this:
Red ball carrier goes to ground and presents ball to SH. As the SH is about to pick up ball, 2 Blue players flop over and kill the ball (ie Blue didn't go to ground as...

    [Law] Re: Unsporting Conduct Question.

Fair enough but I don't think I'd be telling the coach that "the ref was quite within his rights". Probably more like "that was an incident that we will be discussing later".

[In-goal] Re: Charge down in in-goal

What is the restart if the ball strikes an attacking player in FoP then goes dead (ie instead of a deliberate chargedown the kick hits an attacking player who was just trying to get out of the way)?

    [Law] Re: Offside or not

    a corollary to this.

Crossref's fly hack happens outside 22 and the rebound off Green 10 goes into Red 22.

Can Red then get gain in ground if they kick the ball into touch?

    Re: YC return

    I'd be OK with it.

But what if it had been 9:00 when try scored? Red 9 gets the tee, sets up the ball, etc then Red 10 trots back on to take the kick?
  10. Re: How's this season going re new law interprretations down in the weeds?

only if it clarifies some confusion. But I'm sure I could find a lot more relevant & useful items to bring to a novice ref's attention.
  11. Re: How's this season going re new law interprretations down in the weeds?

are you seriously saying that some ref coaches will comment on that?

[Law] Re: Advantage and running out.

If you call "advantage", then a moment later the attacking team scores a try - do you call AO?

We used to have a stat called advantage conversion - this was the % of time you were able to call AO...

    [Law] Re: Choke 'Tackle'

One thing to be mindful of is, once the players realise a turnover scrum is imminent, there is a propensity to enter the maul illegally. For example, in the film clip at time 3:13, Red 19, Blue 21 &...

    [Law] Re: Choke 'Tackle'

if it ain't moving (after 3 mississippi) that's unplayable for me. The sun's gotta go down sooner or later.

But if you've got 3 or 4 Blue players pushing against 1 Red ball carrier it is unlikely...

    [Law] Re: Choke 'Tackle'

You see this happen occasionally, expecially in 7s. Call "no maul, play on". Once it eventaully becomes unplayable (ie stationery) award scrum to team going forward. What normally happens though is,...

[Law] Re: Failed Intercept in Fifteens

I'd be talking to whoever made it very clear for 7s and ask them to make it clear for 15s. What us lot think is probably not relevant.

For the record, a mandatory YC for an inadvertent intercept...

    [Scrum] Re: Uncontested scrums

the main issue I have faced is where a (generally) junior player fesses up that he has never played in the front row before. This is usually about the 4th scrum in and his/her technique has given me...

[Law] Re: Scoring a try against the padding/post

so "grounding" the ball ... is placing your foot on the ball in goal, grounding it? How about sitting on the ball? If not, law reference please.

[Golden Oldies] Re: Nigel Owens on inclusive rugby.

So in one breath you want this thread to be exclusively about NO and in the next you're OK to raise London Irish issue? Or is it just IF that you don't want discussed?

[INTERNATIONAL] Re: England Ireland was it a ruck

tackle with offside lines. Like a ruck, but a few differences. It came into existence because England didn't like this:

    Re: Next season's trials..

OK. Just back from the first NRC game with 2 law trials: 50-22 and goal line drop out.

50-22 isn't on if player passes back into own half.

GL drop out - can be taken anywhere on the goal line,...

Hint: White #13 offloads before he is brought to ground.
