    [Junior] Re: Tap and Go

Agree with Zebra and AC - the attacking 9 is not guaranteed a penalty if there is not an opposition free space, just that they will not interfere with play.

    Re: Henshaw on May

If I expected a 1m space, i would agree, but making it clear you expect players to actually be behind the back foot and not with their feet level with the back foot, you get a better game. I would...

[Junior] Re: Red and Yellow Cards at Youth Level

In age grade before cards, the referee usually has the power to require a substitution of a player who needs to calm down a bit. That way the individual learns, but the team is not penalised.

    Re: Henshaw on May

Good to hear that Jim has been listening to his coaches. As a general rule a slap from the 9's hands has to be by someone in the ruck, if not yet off the ground then that is handling in the ruck, or...

[Junior] Re: Role of the captain in schoolboy rugby?

I'm with PhilE on this. my one caveat would be to have at the very least marched them back 10m for backchat or penalised that behaviour or reversed a penalty before I get to the YC stage.

Re: New Front Row logic tree

PDF does not cover blood replacements, which actually would be one reason why you might go back to contested. So second requirement for a prop (blood replacement) and no prop available, AIU your...

Re: New Front Row logic tree

I think that is unlikely, but there may be competition regs that effectively do this. AIU under law 3, if you don't have FR replacements you don't get any replacements at all, but there is nothing...

    [Law] Re: Theoretical Stalemate

Only if they are in front of a line 10m from where the ball will land. If over 10m, then they do not have to retire, but they cannot advance unless put onside.

GSM highly unlikely for a box...

[Line out] Re: Offside by QTI

The player was standing near the LOT. Although a lineout was taken, I think the ref warned the player not to interfere with a QT.

    Re: Six Nations 2020

The second try, they looked quite carefully at the contact, and the TMO was quite clear it had not come off a French arm, but was off Mr Lawes arm, then off his head and then gathered by the other...

  13. Re: Quins v Sarries - Unusual Timekeeper intervention ?

As I understand it, timekeepers tend to be referees and are in law assistant referees, so they can help the ref in anyway that the ref decides, and are not bound by a protocol like a TMO. So it may...

Re: One for the grammar police?

Occasionally the additional comma clarifies a list, especially if the list has a number of "ands" in it anyway. But we were taught not to used it normally.

[Scrum] Re: Scrum to the team 'Going Forward'

Zebra, attacking team is the opposition to the team in whose half you are playing, not the team in possession.

[Law] Re: Carded in tournament play....?

At 7s tournaments it is very usual that a RC means you sit the rest of the day out. That does not mean, though, that your team have to line up with only 6 players.

[Law] Re: Carded in tournament play....?

I agree to a bit of confusion as a personal example, a player I carded appealed and then could not make the hearing date for a couple of weeks. By the time the hearing went ahead, he was given 4...

[Law] Re: Carded in tournament play....?

In Scotland a RC is not allowed to play until after the hearing, and it may be the following week. Time off if suspended by the club is considered in determining the return to play date.

    [Law] Re: Offside at scrum

    After the ball is...

    [Law] Re: Deliberate knock forward

What was the point of the second touch other than he was trying to control the ball and catch it? If that is the case, what is the problem if it went forward and was gathered by the same player?

[Law] Re: Knock on into the dead ball area.

CR, the problem with 12.11 as you read it is that (imo) the ball is not played into in-goal where it is knocked on. I read 12.11 as applying to a legal play of the ball into the in-goal only.

So it would be sensible for him to retire only 4.9m to retain the right to come back closer? I am never going to police that!
