  1. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

When I hear "Saracens is meant as a compliment/tribute" I am reminded of the owner of the local NFL team insisting that there ain't nuthin wrong with callin the team Redskins

    Re: booing & Barbarians

You mean the song that had the verse about crushing the rebellious Scots with Marshal Wade? That's your version of a unifying anthem? Yeah. No.

    Close enough!

    Re: The crusade continues

A quick search of Google points out just how ridiculous your last sentence is.
  6. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

So, to be clear, you're avoiding your responsibilities under Law 9.27, and for offences which are specifically called out under Regulation 17?

And by "let the players sort it out" you mean?
  7. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

Go on. What is the grey area on slurs? I'm interested. This sounds like old white men trying to find excuses to call people whatever the hell they like.
  8. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

World Rugby disagree with you, as the sanction table I laid out upthread shows.

Are we really taking this to the point where we're trying to decide what kind of homophobic abuse is acceptable?...
  9. Re: Do you walk through the tunnel after the game?

There is a club in the Portsmouth area who have a beer mug set aside for the referee, and the beer was (is?) free.

In Braille, around the side, is "blind *******"
  10. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

Well, it's not being used as a compliment, is it? It's being used that way precisely because of the connotations. No better than "homo" or "fag".

    No tolerance. Offski.

I would hope that after I've said "Blue 7, in at the side" they've had all the explanation they need.

[Law] Re: Thrown Backwards, Bounces Forwards

I'm going to propose Stimpson's Law. It works the same way as Godwin's Law, except that instead of Nazis and Hitler, it's about how long a thread about knocks-on and juggling can go before someone...

God, coaching a referee after a 97-8 game is not a great experience.

One of my nasty surprise matches. Crossleyans and Brodleians, at Crossleys.
I had no warning, and stepped into a war.

    [Golden Oldies] Re: Team Y/C

Where I occasionally referees get tied down is breakdown penalties.

For example: 2 for hands, 2 for not rolling away, 2 for going off feet. No card.
Why, you ask? Because the referee didn't...

    [In-goal] Re: Touch in goal

    You're overcomplicating it.

The need for an immediate grounding is only when the ball comes in from a restart. Otherwise they can do what they want in-goal; they're under no obligation to do...

[Scrum] Re: Back row angle at scrum

    Agree with BB.

The flanker is likely pushing hips in. As a referee, I worry about hips coming out more than going in.

We ordered about 300 of the buggers, and give them to referees, refs on exchange and people we like.

    Re: Coin Toss

No. A lot of referees use non-standard challenge coins. My Society has a coin with the Cardinal bird on one side and the USA R logo on the others. I show them the coin so they know their options.
