Re: End of Game - Did I get it Right?

I expect Blue saw foul play that they expected/hoped that the ref would penalise. If I was the ref, I would have played on and let the medicos look after it. Stopping play (unless there is a danger...

Re: Jap v Sco - No Red Card?!?

and compounded with trials like the 50-22 kick - push more defenders out of the defensive line => fewer gang tackles => increased risk to tackler

    Re: QF Appointments

I reckon you could have blind Freddy reffing the Eng v Oz game and the Poms will still win by 30

  8. [Law] Re: Law changes that have TRULY benefited the grass roots game

wheeled scrums keeping feed with original team. Stopped wheeling scrums as a tactic.

Re: [RWC] Italy vs RSA Tackle RC

Reece Hodge got 6 weeks. Commuted to 3 for prior good record. So his mistimed tackle was twice as dangerous as the Italian spear tackle.

    [Law] Re: NZ v Canada

certainly standing up in the scrum (assuming it happened) had no material effect on Read's ability to pick & go.

Re: one flag up, one flag down

the OP is like crime in a multi storey carpark ... wrong on so many levels.

Wrong decision, no confering, etc. He had 1 job and will now go down in folklore as the knob who got it very wrong.

an aside. Not overly impressed with WR highlight packages. 3:20 total taken up by the first 45 seconds being pre-game rubbish

    [Law] Re: NZ v Canada

I'm watching the RWC 2019 app in Croatia and this incident is shown in the highlights.

NZ were on for the pushover try. Read picks up the ball from base and goes for the line however he goes to...

    2. I'd give PK where play would next commence
    3. What about if the complaint was after try but before conversion? Allow try but disallow conversion? I think that would a reasonable thing...

    [Maul] Re: Maul Law 16.8 & 16.9

"Rugby is a game for players on their feet, etc". Once you've hit the ground you can't then scramble to wrap up the ball.

    [Maul] Re: Maul Law 16.8 & 16.9

No. If a non-ball carrier has the ball carrier wrapped up in the maul then she doesn't have to release when it goes to ground. However, other mauling players who don't have contact with the ball...

    [Maul] Re: Maul Law 16.8 & 16.9

Yeah, the only way its a scrum is if Blue had the Red ball carrier wrapped up before they went to ground. In this situation, they do not need to release her once they're on the deck. But other Blue...

    [Maul] Re: Maul Law 16.8 & 16.9

it's there to stop non-ball carriers from instigating the going to ground. And to stop non-ball carriers flopping over the ball to kill it.

One other thing to keep an eye for. Once it becomes...

    [Maul] Re: Maul Law 16.8 & 16.9

I'm reading the OP like this:
Red ball carrier goes to ground and presents ball to SH. As the SH is about to pick up ball, 2 Blue players flop over and kill the ball (ie Blue didn't go to ground as...
