[Law] Re: Place of Conversion kick

But really he/she wasn't making it more difficult they were making it easier by getting better ground!

Edit... Having said that I really don't think I would not allow it!

[Kit] Re: High Leg boots Quins v Clermont

    Haven't seen them.
Studs are, or should be, checked at all levels.
Sounds like something I wore about 45 years ago....mine I'm sure were about three times as heavy and made entirely of black...

Re: Can I Clarify The Offside Line.

    Not when I'm referring anyway!

I remember once being challenged by a 9 after a game as to why I was insisting he stay so far back from the OS line at the scrum.
I was unclear what he was...

[Law] Re: Hand Off or Fend to the face/head/neck

    Urban myth I believe[/QUOTE]

In some regions there are some variations with regulations which stipulate no hand off above shoulder height.

Re: Can I Clarify The Offside Line.

I've been refereeing for years and can safely say I've never seen a scrum that looked as pretty as that image! !

    Are you serious?

Re: Can I Clarify The Offside Line.

Even if this were the case it is a different issue... the fact remains that the flankers feet /foot is not the offside line and it is inaccurate to state it as so.

As an aside isn't the flankers...

Re: Can I Clarify The Offside Line.

Your Senior ref advisor may be confused about the 9 getting into the 'pocket ' between the flanker and the body of the Scrum.
The flankers foot is not the offside line.

Re: Can I Clarify The Offside Line.

I don't think this is correct.
  11. [Law] Re: Penalty offence by team that didn't knock on while playing advantage for the KO

I'm gonna award Red the Scrum with a word to Red 9 that they might want to be careful about intentionally knocking on because next week they could have a pedantic ref who may penalise them !!
  12. [Law] Re: Penalty offence by team that didn't knock on while playing advantage for the KO

Even more innocuous offences such as time wasting are include also.....which I suppose is exactly the point I am trying to make ( poorly obviously! )
So when I am TJing /ARing and the Ref tells his...
  13. [Law] Re: Penalty offence by team that didn't knock on while playing advantage for the KO

It's just that in my experience it seems a lot of people consider foul play to be limited to offences such as striking an opponent, high tackles, dangerous clear out a ruck and such like 'physical '...
  14. [Law] Re: Penalty offence by team that didn't knock on while playing advantage for the KO

For clarity would you mind defining 'foul play ' as per your understanding.
  15. Re: Scrum Law 19.28 - scrum half position - your advice please

You know you're in for a noisy game if there is a scrum half on the pitch....as for 2 of them!!!

Re: Late hit from a drop kick

Yes.....and depending on where the ball lands it could be on the 15m line. (If I'm de ref)

Re: 2020 - Scrum Engagement change

Not necessarily....it depends on the angle.
Isn't it time to forget about the 'gap' and let them 'set' and wait for the ball!

    Re: Bath/Sharks - AR pushing water-carier

Never a good idea to push anyone while acting as a match official....but having said that it seems the water carrier may have been acting in an inappropriate manner!
    I still wouldn't recommend...
  19. [Assistant Referees] Re: Pushed by player - my fault for being in field of play?

Followed by a well worded and concise response!

Which is more than I can say about a lot of the opinated drivel in between!
  20. [Assistant Referees] Re: Pushed by player - my fault for being in field of play?

Some Unions do indeed appoint match officials who ARE appointed as TJs and not ARs.

[Law] Re: Uncontested lineout drive/ maul - penalty?

Agreed...and as I said earlier I think it was an error and poor decision by the referee.
  22. [Assistant Referees] Re: Pushed by player - my fault for being in field of play?

Yet again a debate that is possibly getting confused ( if not lost) in translation due to regional discrepancies in the use (understanding ) of the terms TJ and AR!

[Law] Re: Uncontested lineout drive/ maul - penalty?

Personally I think it was a bad call from the referee!
I have encountered similar scenarios a number of times and my reaction has been to call "play on, ball at front" which generally causes the...
