[Junior] Re: Role of the captain in schoolboy rugby?

I don't see this as a uniquely school player problem. Many captains of senior teams act as your second example, challenging decisions etc. as I agree this does feed back into team behaviour. I find...

[6N] Re: Caterpillars getting out of hand?

The 'use it' call early is fine, but why allow people to extend the caterpillar without binding? For me the ball is out.

    [Law] Re: Quick tap penalty

i think thatís harsh about this scenario, there are genuine considerations as to whether the retreating player interferes with the 9s options. If he doesnít the. I agree itís a fairly simply play on....

    [Law] Re: Theoretical Stalemate

I just love the idea of adding a deck chair to my match day kit. Would certainly be useful at half time. Maybe a sunshade and a beer cooler too.....

[6N] Caterpillars getting out of hand?

I have no real problem with the caterpillar at the back of a ruck. There is a law to get the SH to hurry up (although I'd prefer the use it was 3 seconds not 5).

    But I'm getting very frustrated...

    [Law] Re: Taken back ?

The commentators used the term 'driven back' and I agree with this. The BC did not actively retreat into their 22, the were tackled and the tackle took them back into the 22. I think it would be...

    [Law] Re: Quick tap penalty

Retreating does not have to be running backwards. In this case they are retreating buy running forwards towards their own line. As long as they have retreated 10m, play on.
  8. [Law] Re: Penalty and tackler not back 10m - Yellow Card?

I have not seen any guidelines like this. I understand the argument for YC if it was cynical and deliberate, however I don’t think I’d be reaching for a YC the first time it happened. If it’s...

[RWC] Re: RWC .. that Kerevi forearm..

Well I’m of the view it’s unacceptable, dangerous and was rightly red carded, and would be when I referee. Rugby has some inherent dangers and these are not helped by reckless conduct.

Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

Nowhere - precisely zero games in West of Scotland this weekend.

Double header refereeing my local team home and away over the following two weekends. Always 'fun' doing that especially if they...

[Law] Re: Wales Italy 6N 2020; was Biggar offside?

Not sure what FU means, and I understand your argument I just disagree. I don't see the ball being out and I don't see Biggar ever getting back onside, but happy to agree to disagree. I like your...

[Law] Re: Wales Italy 6N 2020; was Biggar offside?

Why? Looks like a ruck or TWOL, he did not get onside prior to playing the ball. What do you see that I do not?

    Re: Six Nations 2020

It can’t have been a clear knock on if the TV pictures were inconclusive. I think it might have been knocked on, but there was nothing C&O on the TV pictures I saw.

    [Law] Re: Incorrectly taken penalty.

Ok, so the law now has no sanction for an incorrectly taken PK. What is the hive mind treatment here? Allow a retake or scrum to oppo?

    Re: Six Nations 2020

How can he play a blinder when he was directly culpable for a French try? Not playing to the whistle is inexcusable.

[Scrum] Re: Scrum to the team 'Going Forward'

I’m not sure that’s true, there are lots of occasions we interpret laws and apply common sense or expected outcomes.

[Scrum] Re: Scrum to the team 'Going Forward'

I would say this is a better definition of attacking. An assumption you can only be attacking in the opposition half is just ridiculous.

    [Law] Re: Incorrectly taken penalty.

And to drift off topic, this is where I see a continuing problem in the game. What right does a coach have to howl and hurl abuse or complaints from the sideline? How can we expect players to be...

[Scrum] Re: Scrum to the team 'Going Forward'

Previous to this thread I’d have given the scrum to the team in possession. It’s clear I’m wrong in law, reference to the team going forward OR the attacking team if none (assuming the ‘attacking’...

[Law] Re: Place of Conversion kick

[Law] Re: Place of Conversion kick

[Law] Re: Knock on into the dead ball area.

I had one recently where there was a knock on prior to the goal line, which then went to touch in goal. I gave a 22 DO. Is this wrong and if so why?
