[Law] Re: Knock on into the dead ball area.

I had one recently where there was a knock on prior to the goal line, which then went to touch in goal. I gave a 22 DO. Is this wrong and if so why?

[Golden Oldies] Re: Reports on Referee post-game on WhosTheRef

What is so wrong with letting them in the changing room? I agree people need time to calm down (referees and coaches) but if I've showered and changed and I'm ready to talk, for me the changing room...

[Golden Oldies] Re: Reports on Referee post-game on WhosTheRef

Iíve had lots of face to face feedback from coaches complaining about my refereeing (ALWAYS the losing coach). If they cannot give examples or specific feedback I ignore it, itís they focus on a...

[Scrum] Re: 5m Scrum Penalty and Penalty try

Supporters are always unhappy when they don’t get a decision they want. :D
  6. Re: Scrum Law 19.28 - scrum half position - your advice please

I agree with this but there still has to be limits. I’ll explain my interpretation, tell them what I believe the law says, but if they keep complaining after that they are liable to be penalized. ...

Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

Nothing this weekend, gives me another 7 days to not go to the gym in preparation for my next game, the first time I will have refereed my local team (closest to where I live) away from home. 2...

    [Tackle] Re: Open play, non-maul

the difference is usually due to distances and defensive preparation time. A charge pre tap for a penalty 5m out gives defenders little time to set up properly to tackle.

    attacking from a...
  9. [Assistant Referees] Re: Pushed by player - my fault for being in field of play?

I’m not sure it’s avoiding the situation, it’s facing the realities at certain levels of the game. A replacement with a flag is not the same as an AR and I think it’s a stretch to call them an MO...
  10. [Assistant Referees] Re: Pushed by player - my fault for being in field of play?

From the players perspective, you are just another club official/coach/spectator getting involved in a fight when you shouldnít be on the pitch. I get the point about being a match official but in...

    Re: Time and injury

I think we can’t use judgement on where the scrum might take place and who would have advantage. It’s either right to restart with a scrum or not.

having read this thread I’m sticking with time...

    Re: Time and injury

I did the opposite at a recent game, blew for time after I'd stopped play for an injury. I wasn't sure if this was right or not.

[Law] Re: another kick at goial kicked for try post!

So to be clear the law book DOES NOT specify a scrum for an incorrectly take kick. You could allow a retake.

[Law] Re: Penalise teams late onto the field

All this stuff about knocking on the door assumes I know which of the 10 changing rooms each team is in! Most of the time it’s hard enough to find my own broom cup add let alone where the big fellas...

    Re: Cavalry Charge

I wouldn’t, clear offence, no ambiguity in the laws, I see no reason to give leeway for this vs any other offence. Penalty for me.

    Re: Half Time

I really don’t care if they go in or stay out, but as half time here is 5 minutes they’ve got to be quick. Never happened in the 6 years I’ve been reffing.

On a side issue, I never believe anyone...

[Law] Re: 37 Seconds red card

Looks pretty clear cur to me.
In football goalkeepers usually leap with a knee deliberately raised, usually allowed a self protection method but if an attacker did it they would be penalised.

[Law] Re: Penalise teams late onto the field

[Law] Re: Penalise teams late onto the field

I’m hearing the general consensus is to manage it, but if that fails although there is not a specific law covering this many referees would give a penalty.

i must admit the likelihood of me giving...

[Junior] Re: Knocked out but played on

[Law] Re: Penalise teams late onto the field

[Law] Re: Penalise teams late onto the field

I’m interested in the comments about not being able to start with a penalty. I didn’t use this in my discussion with the coach but might have cut him off at the knee if there was no way of penalizing...
