[Law] Re: When to make the mark

What I do in Yellow Card situations is (this has just developed over the 1st year of reffing):

. Blow whistle, Switch clock off, tell every one the clock is off. At this point I make a mark (so...
  2. [Tackle] Re: South African schoolboy rugby viral tackle video

I'm willing to put my neck on the line here..... There is no way I am sending someone off for that on a Saturday.

I defy anyone could day that is a def red at first time of seeing it, at full...

[Law] Re: Try annulled for foul play

The way I see it is that the first act of foul play is from Williams.

He is not at the back foot, has come in at the side to clear green 9 out. Was no need for that and ultimately what lead to it...
  4. [Law] Re: Can you lift a team mate to block a conversion or drop kick?

Recently we were doing a 15 on 15 team run through on a Thursday night. (Lvl 7).

As I am a relativly undersized BR player I can be lifted by one player quite easily (there are about 2 players in...

    [Law] Re: Advantage

Another variation you might see is a significantly longer pen advantage when the non offending team are on the oppositions goal line, compared to when the non offending team are in their own 22 for...

[Tackle] Re: You can't do that it's Dangerous play!

Would you penalise the 'high knee action'?

It looks to me that the OP is a level 7 referee, I hope I am not speaking for him and out of turn but I would say no he (and I wouldn't). Simple reason...

[Ruck] Re: Diving on the ball as leaving the ruck?

I think we are making this too complicated.

When the scrum half goes to play the ball there are time when the ball is not stationary but instead the ball is 'coming out of the ruck'. Surely this...

[Ruck] Re: Diving on the ball as leaving the ruck?

    The law says:

"Fall over the ball as it is coming out of a ruck."

So I suppose you need to interpret what is "coming out of the ruck" and what is "clearly out of a ruck".

[Ruck] Re: Diving on the ball as leaving the ruck?

When the ball is clearly out then I would see it as open play. But for a player to dive on it they would have to come from an onside position?

[Tackle] Re: Mark + No 10 metres

Spot on in my opinion, deliberate attempt of a tackle I would give PK. They are called Laws for these exact reasons, as they are laws they are open to our interpretation and you can interpret the law...

[Law] Re: Quiz #3 Pin Ball

In using the word advantage I have muddied the waters (because of the obvious use of 'advantage' in the game).

What I am trying to say is that they have profited from the ball bouncing off the...

[Law] Re: Quiz #3 Pin Ball

If the ball hits the ref and (critically) one team gains an advantage then you stop the game and there is a scrum.

Do you not therefore give the scrum to the team that 'did not gain the...
  14. [Law] Re: How long before kick off should one arrive at the club ?

Same for me. 1hr 15 I aim for. Gives me time to be held up in traffic..... or get lost.

    Re: Collapsing Rucks

I had to go back and listen to this pod cast.

As Brian Moore said at the end, I can see both POVs.

I have always thought that if you take another player to ground in a ruck but you do it way...

    Re: ARs and scrums

at the community level I ask the two guys I give a flag to to mark the opposition back 5m at every scrum, this covers attack and defence.

[Ruck] Re: Won the Jackle but not using the ball

My opinion is that it is an area of the game that just needs managing. I am not giving a pen for this, what has the original ball carrier done to infringe a law?

I would shout "red hands away,...

    Re: Worcester v Bath .. 97 minutes

That is how I do it during the game, normal time, if a player goes to sin bin on 25 minutes game time clock they do not return until 35 minutes game time clock. If we have injuries, replacements or...

I agree with this post. I probably sound like a broken record because I say this quite often but we seem to focus solely on the law. Do we not have duty to understand law and why it is in place and...
