    [Law] Re: Unsporting Conduct Question.

Some years ago I was at Twickenham for England v New Zealand. As Jonny was lining up a PK, the All Blacks bench decided it was a good time to do some warm-up sprints in the same in-goal area as...

    Re: YC return

Very true. I often get coaches asking me why their player is not back on yet because the 10 minutes has elapsed. I simply point out that it is playing time that counts, thus excluding "time off"...

Because of the requirement to eat dinners in college, I made friends with others from various faculties, plus meeting people through rugby, tennis, squash and various societies.

  6. [Law] Re: Kickoff opposition not on or behind the 10-meter line

The law used to be ambivalent because it failed to cater properly for restart kicks. For kick offs play does not start until the referee blows his whistle, so there is no problem, but for restarts...

[Law] Re: Advantage and running out.

In 1871 there was no need for an advantage law because the captain had to appeal to the umpires for an infringement (as in cricket). This caused a 10 minute delay in the first...

[Law] Re: Advantage and running out.

If you go back for the penalty, Yellow will probably get a lineout further up field.

It is not clear from your description if the Black lineout would probably have been significantly further up...

At our club's 50th Anniversary dinner the main speakers were Gareth Chilcott and Tony Swift. Both very entertaining.

    [Maul] Re: uncontested maul

AIUI WorldRugby deliberately designated it as NOT being a PK offence because of the uncertainty involved with teams trying to read their opponent's intentions.

In 1991 ( I think) Stow on the Wold RFC played a centennial game under 1891 laws. It was fun to watch, even though they didn't get things quite right.
