  1. Re: Where the 2018 Law Book is actually different from 2017

It used to be the case that a penalty awarded to a defender was at the point of infringement, but the attackers were always on the 5m line, but this was changed some years ago (before the major...

I can understand where Simon is coming from on this, but when the alternatives are blow whistle for a scrum or tell the offending side to let the ball be played away from a pile up, the ultimate...

I think Arabchief is talking about his first society appointment and in Scotland these are normally adult (men and women) (not the top level) league and cup games and U18 league and cup games and, I...

[Law] Re: Hand Off or Fend to the face/head/neck

Covered in out pre-season. reminded that ball carrier has more leeway to fend than tackler, but ball carrier is not allowed to lead with elbow/forearm and if they do contact with head is RC

There are definitions of how compressible - I think to less than 0.5cm.

Re: 2 new laws for NRC at the end of August

I ratehr suspect they thought a 22 DO was too much of an advantage? However I wondered if they thought about changing who gets the put in to the scrum? ie 5m scrum defence

Not just a training jersey as they seemed to be wearing blue shorts and socks too!

I wonder what their change strip will be like? And when they will wear it?

    Re: Next season's trials..

I think it was stopped (as I recall whilst it reduced head injuries for the BC it did not overall reduce head injuries in the tackle), but there was to be some analysis of the results.

    Re: thoughts on this tackle

As Phil says it is a seatbelt tackle, and that should be a PK minimum. Contact with head/neck looks incidental and not swinging arm as suggested by some, so I am thinking of PK only for the tackle. ...

    Re: retaken conversion

For me the player had to take the kick within 30s. So if there is 30s or more still on the clock there will be a restart, but other than that he can choose to get a hurry on if he wants a restart or...

[Golden Oldies] Re: Nigel Owens on inclusive rugby.

Dickie, the paper here covered this saying he was looking for 1.6m to fight the case. However it added that so far he had received only about 180 from seven donations.

  14. [Junior] Re: World Rugby U20 Championship 2019 in Argentina

As i see it Redpath is suspended for 3 months - until after 21 Sept, and in all of these decisions they do seem to have been quite careful to phrase the suspensions to have an effect on games. As...

[Tackle] Re: Brumbies vs Reds YC

Ok to disagree, as this is a part of judgement. But for me the arm never contacted the BC and so it is hard to see how that makes it a tackle!

[Maul] Re: Is this a forward pass?

I agree with this. For me the important decision is whether BC 2 joined the maul legally. if so, then play on.
  17. [Tackle] Re: Wales v All Blacks U20 - how is this not a red card?

I agree with Ian, the launching technique is IMO not a good idea as it must ramp up the danger of the tackle, and that doing so put a player at an increased risk of a higher sanction.

[Tackle] Re: Brumbies vs Reds YC

i don't think he did enough with his right arm to make this a tackle, so I would go for a shoulder charge, not head contact (but only as the bc fell so quickly!) with high danger, so YC is correct...
  19. [Tackle] Re: Wales v All Blacks U20 - how is this not a red card?

Whilst I would probably agree with this, I suspect the issue was the decision about whether there was mitigating circumstances. As far as black was concerned, he was aiming a t chest level until the...

[Tackle] Re: Brumbies vs Reds YC

For me it was one of two things. it was either a shoulder charge without grasping - that he waved his right arm about behind the player is not enough for me, in which case it was a penalty and for...

[Line out] Re: Another Line Out Question..
