    [Law] Re: Offside or not

There can clearly be offside from a charge down Flish.

Going back to the OP, imagine if Green 10 had charged down the kick and it had gone forward and picked up by Green 7, then Green 7 would have...

    [Law] Re: Offside or not

    I'm torn on this one.

If I was minded to say he was offside (see above) personally I think I would have given a scrum for accidental offside rather than a PK. Why? Because that seems the fairest...

    [Law] Re: Offside or not

The problem here is that "Played" is defined in the lawbook.

Played: The ball is played when it is intentionally touched by a player.

The word "intentionally" has obviously been put in for a...

    [Scrum] Re: Uncontested scrums

    Well spotted sir.

I've often wondered what I would do if scrums became a real issue so it's good to know the law book allows this.

[Law] Re: Hand Off or Fend to the face/head/neck

You do have a point, but if a tackler could get a BC :rc: just by deliberately taking a shoulder charge to the head, there would be nobody left to play.

I think the logic is a tackler is half...

[Law] Re: Laws of Rugby Union - 1922

I think the clue is in the date. Back in 1991 there probably weren't many "Ambulance Chasers" around. These days you can't watch or listen to any media without being bombarded by the "Have you had an...

    [Ruck] Re: Jackaling

These things are going to happen so fast that even if you had 10 International Referees watching the same play, I reckon you would get a range of opinions. Personally, I reckon we just need to get it...

    [Ruck] Re: Jackaling

Sorry but that link doesn't work for me nylluma.

Like Didds says though, my feeling is that if 2 opposing players get their hands on the ball before they come into contact with each other...

    [Scrum] Re: Scrum PK

So what do you think the Referee is signalling?

The No 8 is allowed to release his bind to pick up the ball and can now pick up from the 2nd Rows feet.

So what law has been broken?

    [Ruck] Re: Jackaling

But a player doesn't HAVE to bind on to a Jackler over the ball to create a Ruck. Eg if there's a tackled player, ball on the ground and an opposing Jackler, just grabbing the Jackler would create a...

    [Ruck] Re: Jackaling

What I think World Rugby meant to say nylluma was

“as soon as the opposition player arrives, no NEW hands can be used”
Funnily enough I clarified this very point at our regional workshop...

[Maul] Re: Question on driving maul at a lineout ??

    The non-offending side.

Sorry, but it makes no sense to reward the ball carrying side for an accidental offside. If there's an accidental offside, there's a scrum and the non-offending side get...

[Maul] Re: Question on driving maul at a lineout ??

The participating LO players can always stay in the line and move forward or back to avoid creating a maul; they don't have to leave the LO.

That's how I understand it. As I see it, in a...

    [Law] Re: First Match

Be careful here because this one can easily catch you out.

If the ball is kicked in-goal and grounded "without delay" you offer the grounding team the option of Kick Again or scrum on the centre...
  16. [Law] Re: Mark awarded, player permitted to pass rather than kick

Provided the player claiming the Mark kicks the ball first (must leave the mark or kicked out of his own hands) he doesn't HAVE to kick for touch and can pass it back to a teammate if he wants. The...

I wish more clubs would do something similar; the old characters are getting fewer and fewer by the year.

It's too late when they're gone.

[Line out] Re: Crusaders doing what they do best

And my first reaction is why do it then?

It's obviously a pre-planned move, so they obviously think that they're getting an advantage by leaving the LO early.

[Ruck] Re: Jackal vs hands in the ruck?

I did, but I thought there had been a clarification or guidance sent out that once the ruck had formed everybody had to release the ball.

I know it's not what the law says, but I'll bring it up...

[Ruck] Re: Jackal vs hands in the ruck?

Hang about. My understanding is that if the ball is still on the floor and the Jackler has his hands on it, even the Jackler has to take his hands off once a ruck has formed. Ie the Jackler can grab...

    [Law] Re: First Match

I think a bit of nerves is good.

I went into my first match too confident and had an absolute bloody nightmare of a game. A good mate of mine said once "Remember, it's not about you" which I...

    Re: No tackle..?

    But why?

What's the difference between being carried and being lifted? Would the ban on carrying apply to team mates or just opponents? I just don't think it's a big issue - and if it happens and...

    Re: No tackle..?

There's already a law against Dangerous Play.

Having your nuts crushed while being dumped in touch may have been humiliating, but it wasn't dangerous IMO.

    Re: No tackle..?

For me, the BC has just been pushed / carried to touch.

No offence (he wasn't tipped past the horizontal etc) so LO for me.
