    Re: women's rugby

In netball the ball is "680 to 710 millimetres (27 to 28 in) in circumference and weighs 397 to 454 grams (14.0 to 16.0 oz)."
Rugby: 580-620 mm in circumference, weighs 410-460 grams.

[Line out] Re: Offside by QTI

The definition of Open Play includes the word "dead". 6.9 a says the ball is dead when it is in touch.

[Line out] Re: Offside by QTI

It used to have a paragraph of its own, but the word 'loitering' does not appear in the current law book.

[Line out] Re: Offside by QTI

If the player has committed an offence before the ball goes into touch, then touch does not annul the offence.

Whether or not touch removes all offside lines is a different question. If a...

    [In-goal] Re: Knock-on into in-goal

Today's referee awarded a 22 when the ball was knocked on into in-goal (from some distance out).

He hadn't seen that situation before, so guessed but was happy to accept that he got it wrong. None...

[RWC] Re: RWC .. that Kerevi forearm..

The incident itself is history. The main point of discussing it it to decide how to handle such an incident in future.

[RWC] Re: RWC .. that Kerevi forearm..

A 50-50 decision amongst top referees is no help to those of us down at the grassroots, where I would rate it a PK offence. I don't want to see forearm fends to the throat.

    [Law] Re: Incorrectly taken penalty.

    7 A player must not:

    (a) Intentionally infringe any law of the game.

"such as" gives examples and is not definitive.

    [Law] Re: Incorrectly taken penalty.

This directly contradicts the old law:Sanction: Unless otherwise stated in Law any infringement by the kickerís team results in a
scrum at the mark. The opposing team throw in the ball.

    So much...
  17. Re: Short documentaries on refereeing in North America

From the side lines it is different. You hear the abuse and you also hear what the referee said, which the spectators don't. I had a clear case of that when a scrum over the far side of the field...

Re: One for the grammar police?

Some commonly taught (in the past) grammatical rules are in fact categorically wrong eg:
Never use a preposition to end a sentence with.
Never choose to deliberately split an infinitive.

    Others...

A trivial point of usage. Fowler regards it as optional. Personally I always use it because it tends to make a list clearer.

If the club does ban the player, is that taken into account by the disciplinary committee in setting the length of a ban?

[Law] Re: Knock on into the dead ball area.

The 2017 book is identical to the 2016 version that I quoted earlier at #66.

It has nothing to do with whether or not a scrum is awarded, but simply the location of that scrum. If the knock-on...
