    [Tackle] Re: Tackle Release

In the question posed by the OP:.

Tackle is completed when red ball carrier gets a knee on the ground whilst held. Blue player must release ball carrier and ensure he comes from his own side...

    [INTERNATIONAL] Re: That haka

Ha ha yes. I have also not looked at rugby forums for a while.

Off topic slightly, but the NZ public reaction has been pretty good this time around. In 1999, 2003 and 2007 there was a lot of...

I must admit I have trouble reading anything written by Joe Karam without rolling my eyes.

    Ian will know why.

    [INTERNATIONAL] Re: That haka

This has nothing to do with the topic at hand, and appears to be pretty base baiting, which will be ignored.

    [INTERNATIONAL] Re: That haka

I disagree with most of this post. The haka was a Maori tradition but it has been absorbed by New Zealand culture so significantly that it is now part of our culture as a whole.

    Most - if not...

    [INTERNATIONAL] Re: That haka

I purposefully haven't read the thread before writing this because I want to give my opinion un-sullied by the views of others.

My view, and the views of everyone I have spoken to is that there...

[In-goal] Re: No touch down after missed PK

Is there a chance the player was a league convert? If you catch the ball in the in-goal it's automatically back to the 20m in league.

This is always a scrum to be honest. Technically the guy...

[RWC] Re: How are the RWC refs doing so far ?

Barnes finds a YC from a clear RC. He didn't even bother to refer it. I was thinking Barnes was a certainty for the final, but now I suspect he's reffed his last test.

    Re: Spitting - Red Card?

Thanks I did not know that (to be fair I wasn't looking).

These days I still ref but my main contribution is on a judicial panel.
  12. Re: RWC NZ vs Ireland.. henshaw's fluffed grounding.

Do you think it should have been advantage over in the micro second before he dropped it?

Maybe you are right, but that's not how advantage in the 22m is reffed in practice. PK advantage in the...

    Re: Spitting - Red Card?

    100% red card every time.

Call it unsportsmanlike conduct and physical abuse. Sounds like there was also verbal abuse after that too. I understand police deem a spit an assault, so perhaps...

    [Law] Re: PK and time

Didn't he say it was because the PK was awarded before 39 minutes - therefore the one minute allocated for the kick did not take the time over 40 minutes. Owens said something similar in the NZ game...

[Law] Re: Knocked dead by knock on ?

Both scenarios are explicit in the laws.

No room for argument in my opinion. Unless/until the law is changed this is a settled issue.

    Re: World Bowl

Those are some good match ups. The semifinals would be great as well. This would be marvellous innovation for the lesser teams and enable them to test themselves against teams on their own level.

    Re: World Bowl

I think it's a good idea personally. Clubs would object, so it probably won't ever happen.

I remember in 2011 it was a real shame that the pool stages ended and there was a week between games...

Re: End of Game - Did I get it Right?

There was a thread on this a while back. I was in the minority when I said that play should have restarted.

This happened in a Super Rugby game in the last 2-3 years. On that occasion the ref...

    Re: RWC QF predictions

    Looks about right.

I would have Gardiner in favour of Garces.

I would not give Ben Skeen a TMO gig.

  23. [Law] Re: Law changes that have TRULY benefited the grass roots game

Lifting in lineouts has been wonderful for improving quality of ball.

No passing back into 22m has meant the ball is in play longer.

YC's have given refs an intermediate option to deal with...

[RWC] Re: How are the RWC refs doing so far ?

    I doubt it.
Call looked fair enough. He had warned the halfback already for the offence. In any case that scrum feed was not just crooked, it was obscene. Unlike most people here I normally...

[RWC] Re: How are the RWC refs doing so far ?

    Agreed.

I find it hard to believe athat Poite and Garces could be in the top 4 referees at this tournament. The three you mention are all better for a start. Not sure about the rod.
