    Re: YC return

I happened in my game the other week.

YC (Black #10) was due to return. Black scored their first try and the call came in from side line.

I had let Black #10 back on and he ran to where #Black...
  4. [Law] Re: Law changes that have TRULY benefited the grass roots game

I recall people getting laid out with an obvious perpetrator and there being no one sent off as it "spoiled the game".

    Ahhh! Happy days! :)
  5. [Law] Re: Law changes that have TRULY benefited the grass roots game

    Red and yellow cards.

Clear to all watching although now I think about it. Did we have "temporary suspension" before cards?

I can't recall playing in a game where someone got sent off - bear in...
  6. [Law] Re: Law changes that have TRULY benefited the grass roots game

Restarting (after a score) with a drop out. See mud mound/divot/sand from earlier.
  7. [Law] Re: Law changes that have TRULY benefited the grass roots game

Kicking the ball dead from FoP and oppos only get a 22 drop out - now scrum or 22 option.

This change would have stymied my tactic at BP Chemicals of just hoofing the ball from our 22 downfield...
  8. [Law] Re: Law changes that have TRULY benefited the grass roots game

This thread is going to be a bit restricted to those who played/refereed pre 1992 but notwithstanding that I'd say:-

Lifting (1996?) - 100% agree. I packed in Jan 1998 and played in the backs...

    [Kit] Re: Neoprene lifting supports

A load of tiny elite backs.

Even today's "small" forwards eg Hooper are still 15kg heavier than 85kg.

Neil Back who is a previous generation and straddled amateur/pro transition was >90kg and...

    [Kit] Re: Neoprene lifting supports

Edit make that 13.5st - undefeated world heavyweight champion.

Joe Louis was 15st at the "fatter" end of his career.

Muhammad Ali was 15st 3lb when he beat Sonny Liston. Ali (as with most...

    Re: Rugby is officially dead

Much as it pains me to admit it. I agree with Phil E!

Alain Rolland getting rid of Sam Warburton in 2011 for his tackle on Clerc did more than a suitcase full of memoranda could have done in...
  12. Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

This weekend sees me at L8 Yorkshire 2.

    Barnsley v Wensleydale

An incongruous mixture of two of Yorkshire's finest traditions.

Barnsley's Shaw Lane ground home to erstwhile Test Cricket...

    [Kit] Re: Neoprene lifting supports

I would have thought, on the back of professionalism, an ability to train, rest, spend hours in the gym and have access to correct nutrition and "supplements" are what has increased the weight of...

Re: Lineout within 5m of Goal Line

    I thought that.

    But.

If you look at the definitions it makes sense. Marc has bolded the LoT bit and it looks like the stuff below is the definition but it isn't.

Re: Lineout within 5m of Goal Line

    Mark of touch????

When did that become a thing?

I've never known the LoT to be called that!

    Who writes this stuff?

Re: Lineout within 5m of Goal Line

Lineouts no closer that 5m from goal line has been in Law for a while but I recall having them closer when I started playing in the early 80s. I'd guess it changed between 85-93.

    OB.. seems to...

Re: one flag up, one flag down

I've only had this once as a TJ at U14 or U15 - there was this cheat and me (:)) behind the posts. Our lad gets the kick IMO and my flag goes up (no conferring although I didn't see the need as it...

[RWC] Re: Blue on Blue action

A league sponsored by JD sports and they can't organise the right kit - excellent.

They should've got one of their (alleged ) slaves to run round with some shirts during his unpaid 13...
  23. Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

    This weekend I am at:-

    L7 Yorkshire 1

    Leodiensian (Leeds) v Bradford Salem

Leos (Leeds GS old boys as was) were promoted in 2nd place last year after about 30 years at L8. Last year Salem...

[RWC] Re: Blue on Blue action

I recall a bit of thread over Cardiff v Glasgow and their similar kits and that seemed to get lost in a load of organising body kit approval and sponsorship nonsense.

    I don't see what's so hard...
  25. Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

Not this weekend and not me.

I just thought I'd plug (another) proud Dad moment.

This Wednesday evening, 2nd October, LLP junior referees the culmination of 2019 Leeds Varsity competition
