Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

Barnard Castle 2s vs Hartlepool 2s (L9) - snow is forecast so feeling cold already :-(

Social ladies game as a favour at my club on Sunday, expecting rude words and stoppages!
  3. Re: Do you walk through the tunnel after the game?

3 Games this weekend, one was my U13s, one was my club U18s, one was a L8 Social League yesterday - I was invited to the first two tunnels and not the latter. I enjoyed the first two and not so much...
  4. [Law] Re: New Urban Myth - Only a prop can take a knee!

Separate incident, he was trying to claim that only props could take a knee / go down injured, ie that i couldn’t stop the watch to allow treatment! This was long before he tried to force my hand at...
  5. [Law] Re: New Urban Myth - Only a prop can take a knee!

Yup, that’s one way, and like I said I didn’t stop the clock till I was sure. Your route or mine, I got the desired end result, unnecessary, but got there. Not the point I was making originally, but...
  6. [Law] Re: New Urban Myth - Only a prop can take a knee!

Because I wasn’t suspicious until the third engagement failed (scrums had been poor and mismatched all game), so I chose to remove their motivation - something that has worked well for me in the past
  7. [Law] Re: New Urban Myth - Only a prop can take a knee!

Injury of some kind, wanting the physio
  8. [Law] Re: New Urban Myth - Only a prop can take a knee!

They weren’t playing rugby when the clock was running, this was the third reset, none had got to engagement, and the oppos deserved a fair chance to play their scrum and try and get the score back...
  9. [Law] New Urban Myth - Only a prop can take a knee!

Out of the mouth of another prop, in response to a player taking the knee whilst waiting for a scrum restart.

However this is the same player who refused to bind to his hooker and setup a scrum...
  10. Re: Do you walk through the tunnel after the game?

I make a point of being there and clapping both teams and if asked go through the tunnel, I don’t assume, I’m comfortable either way

[Ruck] Re: Gain in ground - taken back to 22

I agree, but then these things are dynamic, for example first in and hands on, on feet is ok but before they can lift and get the ball away a team mate piles in and the jackler goes off feet / to...

[Ruck] Re: Gain in ground - taken back to 22

This was a topic on the podcast with JP Doyle this week, and he acknowledged the dilemma and even highlighted a mistake he once made, the way he describes it is offering players information to allow...

[Ruck] Re: Gain in ground - taken back to 22

Tackle happens where the tackle happens, if that's outside the 22 and the ball ends up inside the 22 then took back be it rucked, caterpillar'd, pushed back or passed (assuming no change of...

[Line out] Re: When is a U!5 line out over?

I normally also try to shout 'down' or something similar when the catcher lands to assist (wards a few early enthusiastic hits), especially early in the season when it's all new.

[Line out] Re: When is a U!5 line out over?

    Assume this is RFU land?

    In which case the NROP are basically overrides to the U19 laws of the game, so if it's not mentioned specifically then refer to the U19 laws, in this case;

    The...

Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

It's grim up here right now, I work with a lad that plays for Acklam so will tell him best behaviour :-)

Acklam is the club who's pitches are in Middlesbrough (Unlike Middlesbrough who's pitches...

Re: Where are you this weekend - 2019-20

First round, and necessary evil, I'm not normally available for Sunday appointments as I'll be with / reffing my sons team (U13) in the morning, but because it's cup weekend at pretty much all junior...

Had just this conversation with a significantly more experienced ref just his weekend, ultimately we got to the point that if a ball carrier going to ground does not make a tackle (as was being...
