[Ruck] Re: Gain in ground - taken back to 22

I thought the JP Doyle podcast was really interesting and reminded me of a confusing call I made at the weekend when the jackler, perfectly legally, had his hands on the ball and the ruck formed. The...

Yep, me also. Having never had captaincy thrust upon me in any team I ever played in I only found out the detail from this site after qualifying.

    Re: Coin Toss

Yeah but at least 50% of Captains are forwards and more than one option just delays the kick-off by 10 minutes. The other 60% know the laws though

    Re: Coin Toss

I ask the Home Captain to toss. If the Captain that chose correctly elects to receive I honour that however then explain that if they want to receive, they should really chose an end as it means the...

    [Law] Re: Numbers

Am with Flish on this. Pre-conversion I would disallow the try and go back for a penalty to the non-offending team and remove the player from the field to complete his 10 minutes. Post-conversion but...

    Re: Conflicts of interest

My apologies, it was a clumsy effort at humor to raise a serious point. My Club is looking to redevelop the facilities so that each changing room has it's own separate shower facilities so that, for...

    Re: Conflicts of interest

I was merely pointing out that the WRU guidance may be out of date if they only recognise 2 genders (ie the use of the phrasing "opposite" genders). In many other parts of the UK there are many more...

    Re: Conflicts of interest

There'll be a long queue for the showers when the WRU update their guidance to incorporate all the genders the BBC recognise

    [INTERNATIONAL] Re: That haka

The answer to your question is obvious. NZ are more likely to win than Tonga et al.

I am largely a traditionalist with a huge respect for the game and it's history however in this day and age I...

    [Ruck] Re: Off feet.

Doesn't half incentivise the winger to avoid being tackled!
  11. Re: RWC NZ vs Ireland.. henshaw's fluffed grounding.

That's what made me ask the question as in neither situation was the kicker under pressure, standing well back from a stable platform. Having seen it twice in quick succession I was wondering if...

    Re: Biggar “Tackle” on Vakatawa

I think penalising Biggar having been mown down by Vakatawa would have been adding insult to injury. Also worth noting that not getting out of another players way isn't in itself illegal on a rugby...
  13. Re: RWC NZ vs Ireland.. henshaw's fluffed grounding.

I'm interested in an advantage call made by Wayne Barnes on Sunday. From a Japanese knock-on, advantage is called and with South African having won the ruck WB says to De Klerk "We'll see how good...

[Law] Re: Tap penalty to player already running: allowed?

That’s a perfectly valid point but I assume that in your scenario the foot soldiers would engage the lone cavalryman at a range which would ensure that he (or she) was brought to ground in good time....

[Law] Re: Tap penalty to player already running: allowed?

A cavalry charge could happen anywhere on the field as Phil E points out however in practice it only ever happened at 5m penalties because there was no point using it elsewhere as frankly the chosen...

[Law] Re: Tap penalty to player already running: allowed?

I have no idea but maybe because the 12 year old who drafted it can't remember what cavalry charges actually looked like and didnt know his arse from his elbow.

[Law] Re: Tap penalty to player already running: allowed?

What's interesting about this thread is whether or not the move involves a single player or a line of players is a bit of a red herring. The move, known as a cavalry charge, was set up with the scrum...

[Law] Re: Tap penalty to player already running: allowed?

For what it's worth I manage it the same as Rich_NL. If it is being lined up I stop it prior to the tap although as I mainly ref youth rugby it is an easier sell.

[Law] Re: Tap penalty to player already running: allowed?

I see your point Didds but my basic argument is that the forces are not the same. In most (but I conceed not all cases) the receiver for a pop from a ruck almost never achieves full speed prior to...

[Law] Re: Tap penalty to player already running: allowed?

Having started playing before this move was outlawed I saw numerous defenders knocked out defending short penalties (concussion hadn't been invented then so it was all right). I consequently feel...

[Law] Re: Charge down & off side

L'Irlandaise's post looks pretty conclusive to me.

[Law] Re: Charge down & off side

The very name seems to suggest that a charge down should really only count if the ball is in fact 'charged down'. Surely any attempt to 'charge down' that results in the ball actually continuing...
