  1. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

its an interesting continuum. In 100 years:
Detroit Tigers - gone [feline appropriation]
Dallas Cowboys - gone [did you hear what they did to the Native Americans?]
    Baltimore Orioles - gone [avian...

    Re: booing & Barbarians

do you think the Barbarians were just having a bit of fun by choosing GSTQ at a Welsh venue?
  4. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

I've heard that number too but Folau had $2M in his fighting fund so I can't see him walking away with chump change.

is that better/worse than Spurs fans being the [insert derogatory name for Jews] Army?

    booing & Barbarians

    https://www.rugbypass.com/news/chorus-of-boos-for-the-barbarians-adopted-national-anthem-in-cardiff

seemed an odd choice of anthem to play. Any backstory? Was it a piss take?

    and, allegedly, $14M changed hands.

    Re: offside from rip?

I would agree. A ball carrier who has had the ball ripped hasn't "played" it. But I'm sure it would look wrong.

A player is offside in open play if that player is in front of a team-mate who is...

[Line out] Re: Offside by QTI

Re the OP. As far as I'm concerned, provided Red were complying with law prior to the ball going into touch (and they were because they were retiring and not interfering with play) then the event of...

    offside from rip?

the "offside by QTI" thread got me wondering.

Blue #10 kicks from his/her 22 and it (the ball) is caught by Red #15 on his/her 22.

Blue #6 has chased the kick from an onside position and...

[Law] Re: Penalties and keeping track of them

agree that 15 for a team is quite high. Rule of thumb is max 20 penalties for both teams for the whole game.

Why are you trying to keep track of number & type of penalties for the whole game...

Re: When is the ball out?

    but:

If the ball has reached the plane of touch when it is caught, the catcher is not deemed to have taken the ball into touch.

Re: When is the ball out?

    this confuses me a bit:

    2. The ball is not in touch or touch-in-goal if :
    a. The ball reaches the plane of touch but is caught, knocked or kicked by a player
who is in the playing area.

    a...

NKW is too black and you are too white (or vice versa :)).

There are shades of grey that we need to acknowledge and be cognisant of. Not just in this matter but in all facets of life.

  22. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

I think there are some words, that if used, are clearly RC-worthy.

But there's also a whole set that are in the grey area. As Ian suggests, if a player called another a "gypsy" I'd be nonplussed -...
  23. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

that's my point - to many younger folk it has no homophobic connotation. What would you do if someone called an opponent a "friend of Dorothy"?

Or my fav "free beers for the ref!"
  25. [Law] Re: Folauís online comments have taken a turn for the worse.

I would have some trouble with the word 'gay', particularly amongst younger players. 'Gay' has evolved from having a homosexual connotation to be a general derogatory comment.

    So, "get up, ya soft...
