    Default Referees and the Freemasons?

I had an email from a referee today who said he would tell me a good way of getting up the refereeing ladder.

He told me that he joined the Freemasons and was promoted quicker than others who he had started with.

I must admit this concerned me slightly but I thought I would conduct a straw poll.

Are any of your members in the masons?

If so do you think it has helped your refereeing career?

    Robert,

I don't think it is in the code to go on a public forum and make this disclosure; I could be wrong of course.

    Deeps,

I have no idea, I will admit to knowing absolutely nothing about the Freemasons bar the fact of a few people at work who are in it, they were quite happy to tell people so I gathered the secret side had gone?

But as I say, no idea at all.

as far as Hampshire RURS is concerned membership of the Masons, School Old Boys Association, Football Team Supporters club, political party, Bay City Rollers fan club, ownershsip of Gold premier card to buy the Chairman champagne in Jersey, being in the Dagenham Girl Pipers, or AGE will have no effect on a referees upward AND downward journey on the referee Pathway.

we base the decision on reported performances, fitness, visible commitment and potential

There is a view that grading should be based solely on current competence and then appointments made according to other factors such as commitment and potential. Difficult to see how age can be discounted if potential is incorporated.

This point has been argued many times...

From what I understand being a Mason is not something that was a piece of info to be secret. The secret part is more then inner workings, ceremonys etc.

By the same token, to be accepted, or considered, one can ask a Mason to put them up for consideration. It's not a case of waiting for the right secret handshake and a series of cryptic winks and nods.

I could be wrong, but I do believe that the influence of "being" a Mason is shroud in a mix of conspiracy theory and little known fact. It brings to the surface a whole discussion of the Illuminati and other such drivel. When someone can show that all the power brokers and top level participants of any organization all tend to be Mason's, only then can we talk. Otherwise, I don't buy the argument.

Indeed, it's only been Hearsay as far as I was concerned until I got that weird email.

Strangely it didn't have a name, maybe it was a spoof.

I'll go get Scooby to investigate.

Robert wants in and is just trying to find someone on here to say that they are a freemason (regardless of it's affect on their refereeing promotions) so that he can ask them to help him get in!
