Yup - back to my hobby horse, refs must develop good judgement and an understanding of the game - and each case is invariably different from the rest, each must be judged on its individual merits.

Did you "peep" and give signal 42 etc? Did anyone say "but he's in touch"?

If so there's probably only you that's bothered about it.

5m scrum seems fine.

well, the TJ (quite correctly) put his flag up smartly. but no - no one complained 'but he was in touch'

I peeped and I think the first thing I said was something inconclusive like 'held up into touch' (that would made everything clear enough, right? ).

you are right.. no one else was bothered so 5m scrum must have 'seemed' right.

Probably best to say simply "Held up first, then Touch in goal - we go with the first one, Gents - 5m scrum attacking ball"

Basically the comment describes your thought process - think fast blow slow, and make sure you have a thought process before saying anything...

Visualisation of situations in your head, as a sort of daydream while in the bath, watching Corrie, etc - not recommended while driving - is the way to get things clear in your mind.
