Foul play by an attacker AFTER scoring a try.
Sorry, but I've been thinking again.
If a defender knees an attacker in the back after he scores a try, following the conversion attempt a PK is awarded "where play would restart" ie in the middle. So far, so good.
Now, what would happen if after scoring a try (ie the ball is dead) the try scorer offends?
The try has been scored and the ball is dead, so I don't see how the try (and conversion) could be disallowed, so would you restart with a PK to the defending side at the middle?

Yes, conversion is not a restart, so you would allow the kick to be taken and then PK to the side on the receiving end of the foul play.

For the sake of interest what would you do if the offending player was the goal kicker and the offence warranted a YC? Allow him to take the conversion then go for a sit down or straight to the bench?

At what moment to you blow the penalty, talk to player and captain and pull your card?
My guess is, if there's a big foul play after a try is scored, there's a high chance of handbags in the try area... So it looks better in term of management to do everything just after the foul play (before the kick) and mark and re-blow the penalty in the middle before restart.
But somehow, I've got the feeling that one should let the kick happen before doing anything... So, not so sure after all...

But the sanction (ie a PK at the middle of the half way line) kicks in after the conversion attempt.
If the kicker is still on the pitch for now at least ie he hasn't been YCd yet, I don't see why he can't take the kick.

After the try was awarded, I would deal with the foul play by the attacker and give him the YC and tell captain that following the conversion kick (which obviously now cannot be taken by the player YCed as he is already on his way to the naughty chair), we will restart with a PK to the non-offending team at the centre of halfway.
I was always indecisive, but now I'm not so sure
