Dead in goal - apparently!

On Saturday.

Red PK for goal misses. Green player catches ball cleanly and hurls it forwrd for 22 DO.

I couldn't actually see catcher's feet relative to the DB line but in goals were not very deep (<10) so blew and said forward pass (a la Will Greenwood). Catcher said it had gone dead so I apologised and we had the 22 DO.

I felt a bit of a dick but it seemed to be accepted ok!

Would you have:-

Do as I did.

Said nothing and had the 22DO and perhaps waited for Red to suss it.

Stuck to your guns and had the 5m scrum attack.

At the level I referee (currently U19 and mainly schools) TBH I think I would have allowed the 22DO but I would have explained to both teams what he should have done. There's an element of coaching involved too with kids.

If it had been the Millenium Stadium .... you'd have to go by the book.

It was a PG attempt so you should be running up to judge to kick and for the next phase in case it doesn't go over.

It missed by miles from far out on LHS to way over to right - it was nearer the corner than the posts!

Nothwithstanding the assessor comments about speed off the mark Usain Bolt would've been hard pressed to get there. Point taken however.
