Made dead from in goal

At a penalty kick red are kicking for touch but mis kick. What are the decisions if the following occur: (and could you direct me to right law section please)
1. Kick goes directly through touch in goal or straight through back of pitch
2. A blue defender catches the ball clean inside in goal but steps backwards through the dead ball line

22.8 BALL KICKED DEAD THROUGH IN-GOAL
If a team kicks the ball through their opponents’ in-goal into touch-in-goal or on or over the dead ball line, except by an unsuccessful kick at goal or attempted dropped goal, the defending team has two choices:
To have a drop-out,
or
To have a scrum at the place where the ball was kicked and they throw in.

22.11 (b) When a player carrying the ball touches the touch-in-goal line, the dead ball line, or touches the ground beyond those lines, the ball becomes dead. If the ball was carried into in-goal by the attacking team, a drop-out shall be awarded to the defending team. Assuming you mean through their own in-goal?

If so, then its a 5m scrum with attacking team put in.

(a) When the ball touches the touch-in-goal line or the dead ball line, or touches anything or anyone beyond those lines, the ball becomes dead. If the ball was played into in-goal by the attacking team, a drop-out shall be awarded to the defending team. If the ball was played into in-goal by the defending team, a 5-metre scrum shall be awarded and the attacking team throws in the ball.

The fact that it was from a penalty kick is irelevant.

If it is through their opponent's in-goal, then TigerCraig has the right answer

Assuming the attacking team has put the ball in goal, then dropout 22m. Tha player stepping over the DBL has the same effect as if he had grounded the ball.

and some of us quote 22.11(b)

... neither of which completely match the scenario given (send in to in goal, then carried dead)....
... but both of which, fortunately prescribe the same outcome
some tidying up of Law 22 would evidently be in order.

I assume you mean through the opponents in-goal and not their own in-goal. To an extent, the type of kick is irrelevant. Essentially it's a kick through in-goal (DBL or TIG it doesn't matter) so the defending team have the option of a 22DO or a scrum back where the kick was taken.

If you meant they kicked it through their own in-goal (now that would be one hell of a cock-up) it's an attacking 5m scrum because the defending team put the ball in goal and it went dead.

In this case the attacking side didn't kick through in goal; they kicked it into in-goal but the defenders took it over the DBL, or TIG line. So ball put in-goal by attacking side and made dead is a 22m DO.

If it was a failed PK at goal or a failed Drop Kick and made dead, the scrum back option doesn't apply so they just the 22m DO.

You mean 22.7 Simon?

I did mean 22.11 which deals with the putting the ball dead element, which is the question. Naturally 2.7 comes into play as the ball goes into in-goal.
