Tip tackle.

Issued a RC yesterday for a tip tackle.

As I watched it occur and immediately thereafter I ran the criteria through my head:-

Lift - check
Turn - check
Beyond horizontal - check
Driven/dropped - check
On head/shoulders - check

Unfortunately I had to keep the list fresh in my mind as I dealt with the melee afterwards which fortunately was handbags as far as I could see (there was an allegation of a punch thrown from soon to be 14 men's coach). Got teams separated and went into cool calm and collected mode.

Anyway got culprit and recounted the checklist to him and captain to give me a bit of time before issuing card to blue 13.

After game it appears that was his first team debut!!!

Coach after asked me my version of it and I recounted the check list again to him. He shrugged and we agreed to disagree I think.

Got the usual "but it wasn't malicious" from a few at the time and in the bar afterwards.

Assessor thought I got it spot on and he wondered pre red card whether I'd have the balls to do it.

Funny I had one yesterday too.

First game of the league season here in Perth, 70 mins into a very good game with no bad spirit at all. Tip tackle made with a drop not a spear.

I blow loud, teams separate with no funny business, I pull player & captain over issue red, player walks away captain asks 'Red?" I say "Yep, no place for it in the game" Game carries on in last 10 minutes as well as it had been in the previous 70.

Tackle certainly wasn't malicious, it was very poor technique and deserved his red card.

My assessor thought it was spot on as well, but liked the fact I had red carded him and got back on with the game within 15 seconds of the offence happening.

Watched it on the video when I got home (All Premier games recorded here with ref mic'd to video) and was quite pleased with the way I handled it myself.
