Default Dickie's intinerary - all advice welcome

    Hi folks,

attached is my itinerary to come & watch the Wallabies get thumped next year. Rugby World Cup 2015.xlsx

So that the trip isn't a total waste () I'm open to advice about what I (and my 15 yo son) should do / should not do during the downtime based on your local knowledge.

Any thoughts are welcome including where to / where not to stay, where to visit, what to see & do, does anyone know someone who runs a B&B, should we go to Cardiff immediately on arrival, etc.

Any usful tips more than welcome.

    Cheers.

I see your intinerary rather keeps you in the SE (apart from a brief nip to Wales and Birmingham) and as such you will miss out on seeing the best of UK IMO.

That said there is plenty to do in that London although I suspect you will be paying an arm and a leg for accommodation.

I don't know what you're interested in other than Rugby but I'm sure other folk can advise on things to see in Wales and the Midlands if that's as far as you venture.

If you like cities/old stuff (that isn't full of Cockneys and tourists) you can jump on a train (2.5 hrs - God knows how much money?) and go to York then you can wander around amongst tourists and nice people. Similarly if you want to see the Countryside then anywhere except the South East has its gems.

If you do decide to venture North give us a shout and we can get you measured for flat caps.

I sell hotels and B&B's for a living and can often give good advice on where NOT to stay..... All depends on budget of course but if you can send me a document I can open I will see what I can do.

Newcastle-u-Tyne has a small version of the Sydney Harbour Bridge (if you're really homesick - I know you're from Melbourne but bear with me) and if your lad was older is an eye opener for a night out!!!???

If money was no object (which it never is of course) I'd forego the pleasures of London for a bit and try and visit the North and/or Scotland. You could tie it in with other matches around the country which aren't at Twickenham and therefore possibly within the financial reach of real people - you could come and watch some Rugby League games!! I'm sure Ciaran could tempt you with a trip round the Lake District and a game at Barrow

Seriously if you do consider visiting Yorkshire give us a shout and we will see what we can do. Rest assured we are not all like Adam if that was putting you off.

You can get cheap flights from London Stansted to Scotland and places (with Ryanair) if you can leave your big suitcases with someone.

Obviously you're more than welcome to stay...2 spare rooms!
