Default Anyone seen this? RWC Clampdown.

A mate sent me this on Facebook, but I can't see anything about it on the World Rugby website.

Thanks Crossref. I wish organisations wouldn't change websites just for the sake of changing them. If there's no clear and obvious advantage in changing it - please leave it alone.

Just about sums it up yes.

Personally, the only bit I have any issue with is

Challenging players in the air - Law 10.4(i). Play on – Fair challenge with both players in a realistic position to catch the ball. Even if the player(s) land(s) dangerously, play on

Actually, I found that bit OK, but the rest of that section rather bizarre. Remember that Play On can mean blow the whistle for a stoppage not covered by law - i.e. to allow the player to receive treatment. The reason I dislike the rest of that sections is as follows:

Play on – Fair challenge with both players in a realistic position to catch the ball. Even if the player(s) land(s) dangerously, play on
Penalty only – Fair challenge with wrong timing - No pulling down.
Yellow card – Not a fair challenge, there is no contest and the player is pulled down landing on his back or side
Red card – Not a fair challenge, there is no contest and the player lands on his head, neck or shoulder

What is a fair challenge with wrong timing? If it's a fair challenge for the ball, why is there a PK? Perhaps it's the same as an unfair challenge without the aggravating factor of a pull down? I could live with that - but it's diametrically opposite to what it says.

The difference between yellow and red card is entirely outcome based. It does not require any different action by the offender. I object strongly to such a concept.

I think what it means is "It would have been a fair challenge if it had been made after the catcher returned to ground; the only thing illegal about it was that the catcher was still in the air when contact was made."

Or it means - the other "catcher" was a little late, so was unlikely to have caught the ball. So both are going for the ball, but one is just too late, and they collide.
