A few good points, but mainly just misplaced nostalgia. Most of the games from that era are a poor watch in comparison to todays game.

I watched the 3rd Lions test from 1993, which I remembered fondly as a great game (my first test match). It was dire, as the game moved from one messy set piece to the next.

The Lions tests in 97 are still a great watch. Especially Gibbs dumping du Randt on his backside

My favourites from the '97 Lions tour are in no particular order:-

    PC Bentley's try against Transvaal.
    PC Bentley clipping James Small.
Dawson's dummy bought by all the SA backrow.
The afrorementioned Gibbs dispatching of Oz du Randt.
    Jenkins' goal kicking.
    Guscott's drop goal.
Smith and Wallace taking du Randt and Garvey to the cleaners.
I also recall a cracking tackle by someone on Pieter Roussouw which rattled his teeth a bit!
    Keith Wood's judge's wig!

Low point (from the comfort of my armchair) was that dirty b*****d from Mpumalanga ending Doddie Weir's tour by kicking him on the knee.

Good stuff. I'm sure even Browner enjoyed it despite the preponderance of RL players

Sure did, mainly cos the RL'ists on show still retained their RU developed skill sets https://youtu.be/ua3z_o16Zkw

apart from Gibbs of course who'd shown he'd learned how to cuff the face of an already tackled player RL style https://youtu.be/HYuWBqibnQ4?t=106

Wow, quite a few behind the scenes discussions pre-semi kick off .
